Lomo LC-A+: Your Day and Night Camera

I was attracted by the photos taken by LC-A+ on lomographyasia.com and bought myself an LC-A+. It has now become my best companion.

Lomo LC-A+ is no stranger to us, it has ISO100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 settings. ISO 800 and 1600 are new improvements over the original LC-A. Coupled with large a F2.8 aperture, it is suitable for night shots!

To a newbie, the 4 setting zone focusing system can be quite abstract, but one will get used to it after a while (even if the focusing is off, one can get unexpected results!

  • 0.8M – almost the same distance as a lady’s arms length, if you are taking self portrait using a mirror, you just need to maintain (half an arms length) 0.4M distance and you can get focused shots
  • 1.5M – about 5-7 steps away
  • 3M – anything that is more than 1.5M but less than infinity will be about right
  • Infinity – distance setting for taking landscape shots

The Lomo LC-A+ has a well thought out design with 2 red lights inside the viewfinder. When lighted up, the left bulb signifies power is on, and the right bulb signifies low lighting condition with corresponding low shutter speed. Hold the cam steady to prevent hand shake! There is a film window on the film back so that one tell which film is loaded, quite convenient for careless folks like me!

Besides that, the Lomo LC-A+ is most famous for its vignetting. The dark corners make the subject pop out and enhances the feel of the photo; it also has an MX switch that enables easy multiple exposures after each shot.

The LC-A+’s light meter is located next to the ISO switch, and is quite accurate most of the time, if you are shooting in a backlighting condition, you can cover it with your fingers or use some blu-tack to do the job!

Besides it’s small size, one thing that makes it my everyday carry camera is because it brings me surprises regardless if I am using color negatives, slides or black and white films (don’t think that LC-A+ is only suitable for x-pro films)!

In summary: The Lomo LC-A+ is a light weight, convenient, day & night camera that can use any film with surprising results. It is indeed my best shooting companion besides my Olympus XA!

The Lomo LC-A+ is known worldwide for its amazing features: automatic exposure, extended ISO range, and multiple and long exposure capabilities. Get your own Lomo LC-A+ now!
