LomoAmigos Yougofirst Shoot With The LomoKino In Their New Snowboard Movie

Are you ready for an adrenaline rush? A little while ago, we teamed up with the snowboard and film-making collective Yougofirst and gave them a LomoKino and some film rolls to play with. After a season of crazy riding, jumps and tricks, they have finished their latest movie HETEROTOPIA which features footage shot with our 35mm movie-maker. We had the chance to catch up with Vid and Matic from the collective about the new movie and their experiences shooting analogue on the slopes. It’s also our pleasure to showcase the movie here!

Please could you tell us a little about yourself and the Yougofirst collective?

VID: Well, I’m Vid from Croatia, and he’s Matic from Slovenia. We met through snowboarding, started riding together and then finished up having this small homegrown movie production of ours. Other riders and filmers involved are all good friends as well and we have been together in snowboarding for a long time now. It’s always a great pleasure to travel around with all the people behind the project. Wherever we go we know there’s laughter and good times ahead and that’s what keeps us moving.

Why do you love producing snowboard videos?

VID: We love it because it involves all the best things you can get in life – traveling, hanging out with friends, having fun and being creative, which goes both for the riding/filming part as well as for the post-production. Other than that, I’m personally very thrilled about the idea of having these films as documents of time in the future. I think it will be great to check them out in a few decades.

Could you tell us about your latest movie?

VID: We really didn’t have any certain plans or destinations we wanted to visit and film at during the last season. We just wanted to go out there and shred whatever gets on our way. And it turned out pretty good, I’m happy. Life lasting memories were successfully caught on tape and we can’t wait to share it with the world after our premiere in Ljubljana, 08.11.2014. Hope to see you there!

Why did you decide to integrate LomoKino footage into the movie?

Matic: I watched several videos shot with the LomoKino and I really liked this kind of “blurry memories” vibe you get on the film. It captures what you shoot, but still leaves you space for a bit of imagination kinda. I love analogue photography in general as well as making videos of course, so the idea of the LomoKino seemed like something worth trying out.

How was your experience shooting with the LomoKino? Have you got any tips for aspiring LomoKino filmmakers?

Matic: It was funny in the beginning because it’s so simple that we were not 100% sure if we were filming at all until we came home from the trip and developed all the film rolls. They were all shot and they turned out really nice. Tips…keep in mind that when you shoot the sequence you normally shake the camera so you might not get exactly what you want in each frame. Always check if you are pointing the camera directly in the direction you want to and maybe rather take a step or two back from the object to make sure you don’t cut out something. I figured using a tripod can be very useful as well for some situations.

What’s next for Yougofirst?

Matic: I would say trying to combine snowboarding with different kinds of visual arts and music. We want to focus on producing more conceptual visual entertainment, collaborating with visual and music artists and from time to time maybe producing some wearable goods as well.
