Hello Wilson. One year ago you shared your portrait photography project – Hitogomi.w with us. Please share some thoughts on taking portraits.

When I started the project hitogomi.w, , the main purpose was to try out different styles and looks and find one that is most suitable for me. After a year, I think I have found what I enjoy taking the most, that’s why I tried to focus on a particular style, and try to make things better and better.Nowadays not all people are interested in refreshing styles of photography, but this kind of style was what I would like to pursue at the very beginning of my project. Taking the photos I love is the most important thing.

Please share your most unforgettable portrait experience.

On one occasion, I was taking a series of portraits with the harmonica virtuoso Leo Ho ( He is also my schoolmate ) in the countryside. Unfortunately there was a typhoon on that day. At the very beginning it was very sunny, but in the middle of the shoot, the weather was very bad. What’s more, we have chosen a rock-climbing site for the shoot! Luckily we finished the shooting, and the photos were awesome!

What is your first impression of The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens ?

The appearance of The New Petzval 58 Art Lens is just identical with The New Petzval 85 Art Lens , and its brass look is very eye-catching. The lens is quite heavy, it’s a very solid lens indeed.

Which camera did you use with The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens ?

As I don’t have a Canon nor Nikon analog camera, I use Sony A7M2 instead, The electronic viewfinder was very useful and convenient for focusing, and the image stabilization function also helped much during my shoot.

Please share portraits taken with "The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens.:http://shop.lomography.com/lenses/art-lenses Why did you use the lens for taking such photos?*

These portraits are the photos from my photography project, hitogomi.w . Although the project was mainly focused on analog photography, I luckily got The New Petzval 58 Art Lens , and tried to bring the lens during the two-day shoot and see if there are any unexpected things that would happen when I use the Petzval Lens again.

Last year you tried the Petzval 85mm Art Lens. How would you compare it to the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens? What kind of photography is the lens is most suitable for?

The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens and "Petzval 85mm Art Lens are more or less the same. But I think the photos taken with the Petzval 58 are more solid then the former one. Moreover, the bokeh control function is just incredible. Sometimes I would prefer less bokeh, as a normal lens. The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens can be used in a wider way. It is very suitable for daily use, and the focal length is more flexible.

Do you have some tips for new users of The New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens?

Because of the bokeh feature of the Petzval Lens, if you have wrongly used a big aperture in some situation, being out-of-focus are will become quite obvious. So I suggest new users to use a smaller aperture at the beginning.

What kind of projects would you like to use New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens for?

During the two-day trial, I fell in love with this lens! I feel bored with the normal lens, and the unique optics of the Petzval Lens offers me a shooting experience that I have never tried before. It also let me recall the memories of using the Petzval 85mm Art Lens a year ago. Due to the limited time, I didn’t try the lens at night. If I get the chance to use it again, I would like to take it to places with complicated neon lights like Mong Kok at night. I think it will be extremely interesting!
