On Freedom of Speech by @alexintheskywithdiamonds

On Wednesday in Paris, a tragedy took place. Cartoonists and freedom of speech advocates were killed by extremists claiming that they “avenged Prophet Muhammad.” Let us, lomographers, take a minute to think about freedom of speech and how we live it.

The World According to Herr Willie: Meet Ishita Malaviya, India's Lady of the Board by @wil6ka

Places don’t mean anything without the people who bring them to life. Through my job, I am privileged to meet outstanding characters on my travels. A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to meet Ishita Malaviya, who is the first female surfer of India. Hard to believe, but she is influential and beautiful. And she is the biggest possible anomaly. In a country where people fear the open sea as much as Dracula fears smoked garlic, Ishita throws herself onto the waves of the ocean like there is no tomorrow.

J Ö R Ð + V A T N: The First Three Days by @andrejrusskovskij

When you grow up listening to Björk and Sigur Rós, it’s impossible not to wonder what makes their music and videos so unique and breathtaking. It doesn’t take long to realize that their own country is the biggest inspiration.

The Role of Film: Is It Still Relevant Today? by @hans-koepsell

We live in what many term the digital age. And yet, why has there been a recent growth in the popularity of film as a photographic medium? I asked three experts to weigh in on its relevance.

The Accidental Tourist: My Diana F+ Story by @seangoodhart

I enjoy architecture and the large public sculptures we often find in cities. The following tells of my adventures with the Diana F+ from November 2013 onwards. Serendipity plays a part but some planning helps me create unusual images of oft-photographed places.

Capturing Patterns on Film by @ravishp

Rumi once said, “In silence there is eloquence. Stop weaving and watch how the pattern improves.” In our quest to find the best shots, we can overlook some obvious patterns. They could be geometric or symmetrical, even asymmetrical. Many prefer street photography or portraits; I love hunting for patterns, those that turn pictures to a canvas for our imagination. How does one look for such patterns?

Vicuna's Travel Stories | Burkina Faso: The Land of Upright People by @vicuna

When someone asks me why I love Burkina Faso so much and what’s so special about it, I answer without any hesitation: the people. There’s something in this country that connects the people together very strongly. Here, foreign visitors are warmly welcomed. And honestly, I think that the portraits I’m most proud of and that I really love are those shot in Burkina Faso. “Why,” you ask?

Travel Stories: The Sahara Desert by lomonina by @lomonina

The natives of the desert are really special, and I have to admit that they taught me a lot. They are so simple, are happy with what they have. But most importantly, they know how to live in the present and make the most of every day. After all, tomorrow is a new day and we have no idea what will happen then.

Perhaps the most important thing they showed me are the different colors of the world that I never knew existed. We grew attached and formed strong friendships. I left a part of my heart there.

The Enduring Beauty of Diners by @lorrainehealy

I would like for them to stay in business forever, a testament to their uniquely American idiosyncrasies and their place as community gatherers. I love that they are unpretentious, their subtle humor, their colors, and their kitsch. Nothing wrong about their prices, either.
