Introducing The New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens

15

We’re proud to introduce the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens – a bold, beautiful & brimming with bokeh resurrection from the zenith of Russian optical design.

Over half a century since the original Jupiter 3 lens was designed, we’re extremely proud to introduce the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens to our line of exquisitely handcrafted Lomography Art Lenses. Designed by the highly experienced Lomography team and manufactured by the expert technicians at the exact same Zenit factory in Russia as the original lens, the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens retains the strong character and Soviet spirit of its forbearer — crisp sharpness, smooth, natural colors and lush, dreamy bokeh — while also transcending it in many ways.

First developed in Soviet Russia in the late 1940’s, the original Jupiter lens was crafted by the optical pioneers at the Zenit factory in the suburbs of Moscow and came to be loved for the incredible character it gave to the millions of images captured with it. Now, Lomography is truly thrilled to be continuing the legacy of this famed lens and transporting it to modern times with substantial design improvements. Equipped with a versatile 50mm focal length and f/1.5 maximum aperture, the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens has an outstandingly shallow depth of field at large apertures and yields stunning results in all kinds of settings. Whether you’re shooting in low light or bright sunshine, you’ll end up with an extremely unique image quality that makes this lens incredibly special and gives a character entirely its own!

The New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens is being produced in small batches and thus will be available on a very limited first-come, first-served basis. Head to the Lomography Online Shop right now to get yours! For more info, head to the New Jupiter 3+ Art Lens site.

Looks great!! Would this lens fit on a Minolta CLE???

as I'm not sure that the Russar+ and Minitar lenses fit on the Minolta CLE because of a shutter curtain that could be too close to the rear of the lens....

The Jupiter 3 I have doesn't extend inside the camera. It is not a non-retrofocus wide angle.

Maybe it would be nice if the next Mysterious Lomography product would be a rangerfinder camera with a Leica M-mount, to fit all these new Russar, Minitar and Jupiter lenses (The Minitar has no L39 option like the other two). Since Voigtlander stopped producing the Bessa range, no new rangefinders are being made anymore. And the existing second-hand versions all have their specific issues regarding the framelines when combined with the new Lomography Art lenses, I assume...

@sirio174 thanks for the answer :) @wesco this Jupiter 3+ seems to have the Leica M-Mount adapter...

I have a Kiev 2a with Jupiter 3 from 1957. It's single coated, but still has excellent contrast, and wonderful sharpness, even wide open! www.lomography.com/homes/herbert-4/albums/1815177-kiev-2a-r… It's a very good Soviet version of a Zeiss Sonnar f/1.5.

It would be nice for Lomography to make a wide based (like a FED 2) rangefinder M39 camera body using copal shutter and TTL light meter like Zenit KM Plus, but no motor drive, just a quiet manual film transport... PLEASE! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!!

I'm very happy to see this great lens back in production, and being manufactured by KMZ. My KMZ Jupiter-3's are very close in performance to the modern C-Sonnar, which cost almost 2x as much as the new Jupiter-3+. Of course- much time was spent modifying the original KMZ J-3 to focus correctly on the Leica, which required that the focal length be changed by moving the rear triplet. Sounds like the new lenses will save people a lot of trouble. Made from chrome-plated brass, a better choice of materials than what was used for the Vintage Zeiss and Jupiter lenses.

My order has been placed. I will be testing the new lens against some of the first J-3's that were produced going back to 1949, and against the Zeiss 5cm F1.5 Sonnar that is is based on going back to 1934. This new lens has heritage.
