Becky Broodbakker: A Trip with the Lomo'instant Wide
1 11 Share TweetUK based photographer Becky Broodbakker shoots film and manipulates her shots to create eerie images with a fairy tale feel. We lent her a Lomo'Instant Wide which she took with her on a day trip to Derbyshire.
Tell us more about yourself? I am an experimental film photographer based in the Midlands, UK. I spend lots of time outdoors and grew up in the countryside so that has an effect on the locations that I choose. I’m also deeply into the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
On shooting with the camera: It’s wonderful! Very simple to use which I like. The plastic lens creates a dreamy effect which I fell head over heels for and I really enjoyed the unpredictability that comes with the lens and viewfinder not being connected.
On these shots: Four of my friends in a meadow on a brilliantly sunny afternoon in Derbyshire. Most of my photo shoots go the same, I group everyone together and we all jump in my bestfriend’s camper van and take to the countryside to see what we can find. It’s very relaxed, I don’t even like calling it a photo shoot because that seems too staged! Essentially what I’m doing and what I love doing is just photographing girls being girls.
On the future: I look forward to more photo trips out with my friends making the most of the summer weather. I am also currently planning a couple of promotional lookbook photo shoots with some vintage clothing boutiques.
