Bare and Free: Portraits by Jordan Bunniie (NSFW)

More and more women are becoming comfortable with their own skin as they let go of fears and worries on being judged and imperfection. American portraitist Jordan Bunniie poses her models in their most natural through her analogue camera.

As we are all familiar of art history and its fascination for the nude female body, there have been many overlooked cases of objectification. As history is written by man himself, it is only now that the naked woman is seen as a symbol of empowerment than of lust and sex.

Jordan, both model and photographer, believes in freeing the female body from standards imposed by the patriarchal society. Through her own stylized portraiture, the woman as subject is given control and personality, than being mere objects of beauty.

Her portraits challenge the male gaze: the woman as the subject is not portrayed as the fragile, helpless beauty, but as a sensual, teasing yet conscious and knowing woman. Playful yet modest Jordan’s photographs may be, she finds a unique affinity to photographing the hands.

“Your hands say everything about you.” she says.

When away from her camera, one may find Jordan posing and modeling for other photographers, emitting the same attitude and style she possesses in her photography.
