Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

I served six years in the United States Air Force where I worked on missile guidance systems and I got out about four years ago. I have a 20-month-old daughter named Cordelia who is the main reason why I got into photography. I enjoy taking lots of photos and dislike to do a lot of post-processing work. I tend to focus more on the subject, light, color, and framing to truly invest myself in each photo during the shooting process.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I love the look of grain in film and wanted to join a movement that was not afraid to break the rules of photography a bit. I have always liked the more unique photos that have not been doctored too much in post.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule #1 Take your camera everywhere you go. I have taken a few stunning photos of my daughter Cordelia at a local grocery store. And a sprinkle of Rule #5 Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible

In this digital age, why still film?

I still like how the color is more vibrant and true to life with film. The grain is a look that even the best digital cameras try to match but have fell short. Also having a limited number of shots forces me to slow down so that I’m invested in each picture. I’m also more excited using a film camera waiting for the film to develop.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

Canon AE-1 Program. This camera is the reason why I got so into photography and has a permanent place in my camera bag. It is easy to use, has a strong built and affordable lenses, and takes stunning photos.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Hands down it would have to be the Belair X 6-12 Trailblazer. As I have built a 120 camera from scratch I can fully understand what it takes to build a camera well. The Belair looks like a great third camera to keep in the bag for just the right moments. Also, the design has a strong look and nice lines.

This was taken with a DIY 3D printed medium format camera.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

No, however I did recently teach at a school that was very much like Harry Potter but for makers.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

It’s an almost timeless color photo that just works well from the background to main subject who just looks he's ready for an adventure.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

montagu because I like the grain and subjects of his work. He seems to take pictures of what he is passionate about while having a great eye for clean lines and unique photos. This speaks volumes more to me than others.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I find both the competitions fun and engaging but I would love to see a way for us to talk in a almost real time chat. Like the shoutbox but more personal. Easy to say but I bet hard to implement.

Thank you Apollo for sharing your thoughts with us! Welcome to the community and we're all looking forward to seeing more of your work!
