Spring Melancholies, a Photographic Project by Paola Blondi

Paola Blondi, a young photographer with a creative personality, shares with us some of the work she realized with the Petzval 85 Art Lens.

The series, called Tristezze di Primavera ("Spring Melancholies"), gives us an original interpretation of this season, still delicate and emotional.

Hi. Could you introduce yourself to the Lomography community?

I love animals, the wind, the sea and the first days of spring, to get my hands everywhere, to judge things by their consistency to the touch.

I started taking pictures a couple of years ago: first, they were simply for memories. Then, for some reason, they became an efficient and complementary-to-words medium to stop time, memories, people, emotions, life. Maybe because of this, I almost transformed it into a mania (I have several obsessions).

Tell us more about this photoshoot.

The shots were created following the emotional wave in which I find myself in right now: it is a period of revolution and realization ... some of them not even that pleasant. I still remain loyal to my dreamy and evanescent style.

Regarding the technical part, I can already admit I am a crazy fan of the out-of-focus no matter what, so my mantra is as wide as possible, always.

Because of this, I could not wait to have the Petzval 85mm in my hands. Not only was it a focal length that I had never tried before, but it has a fabulous blurry with a delicate swirl effect that already amazed me when I saw the first pictures shot with this lens a while ago. And I used my Canon 5d mark IV.

What were your first impressions about the lens?

The Petzy? I LOVE IT (among my obsessions I also give a name to everything and everyone. The Petzval, for the whole time it has been with me, has been introduced and called like that by all my friends, even the non-photographers).

My impression, after the first shots, was that the Petzval is a lens that needs to be mastered. Therefore, in order to stay more relaxed with the focusing, I preferred to close a little bit and shot at 2.8.

Once I decided on the mood, the outfits, the places (natural environments, leaves, flowers, everything that could indicate the spring rebirth), the next step was to insert the emotions I wanted and thanks to Arianna (the model), I think I managed.
