The bet was whether all four of a horse's hooves were off the ground at the same time during a gallop. They contacted the English photographer Muybridge to set the record straight. He set up some tripwires and rows of cameras, with a horse running along.

The bet no longer matters -- it's Muybridge's discovery that took a shine. Learn more of the fascinating trivia of the beginnings of motion picture through this creative video.
