First Impressions of the Neptune Convertible Lens System: Yoann Leveque

Yoann Leveque is a French photographer living in Paris. His story with photography started with a digital camera in 2012, which was quickly replaced with his very first analog camera, a Canon T90. His style celebrates spontaneity: a mix of portrait and street photography. For his new series with the model Sara Etienne, he used our brand new product: the Neptune Convertible Lens System.

Hello! Tell us a bit about your photography background.

Hello! Well, five years ago, in 2012, I bought my first digital camera; it was a reflex, a Canon 1100D. I was living in Lyon and as a student, I had time to walk in the city. This is where I shot my first pictures, where I experimented with street photography and portraits. A few months later I bought my first analog camera, a Canon T90 that I'm still using today.

I've traveled a lot, I've shot my friends through Europe, I've shot people in Scotland when I was living there, I've participated in violent protests in Paris and experimented with photojournalism. My photography background has been mainly made on the street.

What would you call your photography style?

My photography style is a mix of portraits and street photography but beyond the style, the spontaneity best describes my photos.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Convertible Art Lenses?

A beautiful object, made in heavy metal with such beautiful finish -- all that I like.

How does the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System fit into your style?

The Neptune Convertible Art Lens fits into my style because it's really luminous, there is no vignetting, it's clear and unadorned for each of the three lenses. I usually only use a 35mm, but here, as you can switch from the 35mm to 80mm or 50mm quite easily, the different lenses can change your vision of the subject and add more creativity to your photos.

Could you share your best photo and the story behind that shot?

To test the lenses I wanted some nature elements so we decided to go in a forest in the south of Paris. After the shooting day, upon returning, we found this field of yellow flowers. First, we made some "serious" portraits because we were testing the new material of Lomography … but then we started playing with dandelions and everything was more spontaneous. Then Sara let herself falls on the flowers and I took the photo.

Any pointers that one should keep in mind when using the Neptune Convertible Art Lenses?

Do not forget to match the diaphragm to the lens. I forgot to do it several times.

What is your favorite lens?

The 35mm! Always.

Other interests aside from photography?

I am strongly interested in sciences, I like to know how our body works, and I am currently working in a research lab in Paris about an infantile disease. I am trying to exploit this scientist side in my photos.
