Hello! Tell us a bit about your photography background?

I've been a full-time professional wedding photographer for seven years. Self-taught, it was a hobby that grew organically into a business. In 2013 I began making films alongside my usual photography. In 2014 I was named one of Rangefinder Magazine's 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography and I have taught at Photography Farm, The Photography Show and Snap Photography Festival as well as teaching one-to-ones to my peers. I absolutely love my job! Moving forward I am diversifying into more family portraiture and personal projects. Earlier this year I began my work looking at the modern world of Northern Soul music in the UK - I would absolutely love to shoot part of this on film and incorporate video work too.

What would you call your photography style?

My work is heartfelt, creative and informal. I absolutely love storytelling! For this shoot I decided to just let my creativity take over. I wanted to create something a little different from my usual work, free from the expectations and constraints of a wedding day. When I shoot fashion or portraits I love to make something that feels dreamy and nostalgic.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?

The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System are things of beauty. Aside from Lomography no one these days is making really, really beautiful lenses. They gave my camera a totally different look altogether! I shoot manual focus a fair amount anyway so this wasn't totally out of my comfort zone, but I definitely noticed how smooth and easy to adjust the focus it was, without feeling like it was going to slip out of focus. I loved the freedom of being able to take the system apart and change it up. I think this would be excellent for someone getting to grips with photography, seeing how different focal lengths work and to be able to really see the changes in aperture. The creative aperture plates fit in neatly and were easy to take in and out!

How does the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System fit into your style?

The Neptune Convertible Art Lens System was perfect for the dreamy style of portraiture I love. Being a lover of glitter, sparkle and playing with bokeh, being able to create starry bokeh was so much fun.

Could you share your best photo and the story behind that shot?

I absolutely love this photo (see below left), the whole shoot was planned around taking advantage of the creative aperture options for the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System so I chose a location with lots of sparkle and packed a suitcase of sequinned clothes for the models to wear. I wanted the shoot to have a nostalgic feel, almost Famousesque. I chose the 80mm lens for this shot so that I could compress the glittery ceiling to surround Abbie with twinkly stars and the whole shot came together beautifully and just summed up the whole feel of the shoot.

Any pointers that one should keep in mind when using the Convertible Art Lenses?

Slow down! If you're struggling with manual focus try shooting in live view on your DSLR and zoom in to check you're nailing the focus. It can be tricky to get used to but it's good to concentrate on making each photo carefully, rather than letting your camera do much of the work and then over-shooting. Allow the Neptune Convertible Art Lenses to help you shoot with intention every time!
