First Impressions with the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System: Mitchell Wojcik

Music and art photographer Mitchell Wojcik is a regular fixture in the Lomography Gallery Store NYC, one of his favorite places to stop between shoots or on days off. We asked him to test the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System and were thrilled when he agreed to let us film him on set, shooting portraits of the band Fences. Hello! Tell us a bit about your photography background.

Hey! I grew up in Michigan photographing everything, my mom gave me a camera when I was a kid (a 110 teenage mutant ninja turtles camera that printed little ninja turtles in the corner of your photo to be exact) and from there I just always had cameras. from my teenage years photographing local bands and my friends to my twenties where I was photographing my friends, their album artworks, their tours, and my life in general. Now I've settled down in Brooklyn for the time being doing the exact same thing :)

What would you call your photography style?

I would call it a mix of documentary portraiture and fine art. I want to capture a feeling, a moment, and doing so with a purpose.

What was your first impression upon seeing and holding the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?

It's small. I like that how easily I can carry these and swap between my film and digital cameras. How does the glass hold up in the final image? It's sharp.

How does the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System fit into your style?

Easily! I can take it anywhere which is usually what ends up happening when I'm taking my portraits, it's anywhere. Venues, bars, alleys, etc. but also I can bring them to a set I build out and use them to capture still lifes I want to build out. It's an interesting mix.

Could you share your best photo and the story behind that shot?

I took this photo of my close friend Chris on this fire escape, and we were discussing recent life and really commiserating on some things when he had this moment where he just had a thought of clarity in it all. he was smoking and looking out, watching the world move. I was sitting and caught this thought as he looked down at his cigarette, then me, where we both silently agreed that things aren't always so bad. sometimes it's all just really good and we don't see it.

Any pointers that one should keep in mind when using the Neptune Convertible Art Lens System?

To really be on with your focus, but also to play and just have fun with it. It's a tool for you to create, so make as much as you can with it.
