Newcomer of the Week: charlottelt

Fine art student @charlottelt uses photography as part of her research and documentation on architectural sculptures and installation. A newcomer in the Lomography community, she instantly grabbed everyone's attention with her eye-catching and playful photographs that focus on lines and colors.

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

I’m a Fine Art student working collectively in interdisciplinary design duo. Our work focuses on large scale architectural sculptures and installation and photography is a means of research and documentation for me. I’ve only recently started using film, but I’ve fallen in love with the medium.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I was introduced my a friend of mine who is a huge Lomography fan and showed me through all her photos and the kinds of effects and moments you could capture with film. I them stumbled across the store in Paris and decided to join the Community to share my newfound love of film.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule #1: Take your camera everywhere you go.

I’m always with my camera around my shoulder and often a few disposable cameras in my bag. Even if I don’t take any photos in the day, I don’t like to risk it!

In this digital age, why still film?

The color for me is something I’ve never been able to achieve successfully with digital, but it’s effortless with film. It also makes me much more precious about taking photos and to consider the subject or frame with a different mindset, although sometimes I’m far too precious over my photos. I’m still working on my confidence of working with film! The element of mistake and chance also attracted me to film, a theme that’s prevalent in my personal fine art practice.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

Canon AE-1. It’s the camera that introduced me to film, a camera I’m still learning with. I’m still very naive with film and I think it’s a good camera to start playing with.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

I’d love to own any of Lomography’s instant cameras, but particularly the Lomo’Instant Automat, so I can be more spontaneous with my photos.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

Baudelaire's quote “A child sees everything in a sense of newness – he is always drunk." To see everything and anything with a sense of excitement. I enjoy the overlooked elements and corners, I’m often caught wandering off to capture a peculiar shadow or reflection.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

I rarely take portraits, it’s something I really want to improve on. This is one of the few portraits I’m happy with that I’ve taken, catching my friend in a candid photo in a church somewhere in California.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

I’m still very new to the Community, I still have a lot of discovering to do! I recently came across the photos of @francescosambati. I really admire the composition of the photos and the muted color palette. I especially like the architectural shots highlighting shadows.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Interacting and following the work of fellow film enthusiasts, learning and experimenting more and being an active part of the community.
