Lomo'Instant Automat: Sweet Italy with LomoAmigo Sophia Baughan

Sophia Baughan, a tattoo artist and inspired traveller based in Sydney, Australia, takes us on her European travel with the Lomo'Instant Automat.

How did you start your Instagram travel account?

I have always travelled and had a camera in hand, whether it be a disposable film camera, instant film, or SLR camera. And so originally I was posting photos on my Facebook for friends and family to see and to keep my own visual diary. Originally I was posting some of my travel/holiday pictures on my work account @sophiabaughan as tattooing will take me to all kinds of places. More and more interest grew from clients and followers, they were asking a lot about my travels and wanting to see more, so I made another account to be able to spill that over into, so to keep my tattoo page more tattoos and anyone interested in travel snaps could check out @abovebelowdesigns.

What is instant photography to you?

Literally, the real deal. Unfiltered, unf*cked with, sometimes overexposed, sometimes slightly blurry but it's real, and it's captured the exact moment you took it in. Absolutely no false advertising, you're looking at the place/subject in all its natural glory!

What do you like the most about the Lomo’Instant Automat?

The classic old school look, easy to carry around when you are travelling, suuuper easy to use, and although there aren't any examples here, the multiple exposure option is absolutely amazing!

What inspired you during your stay in Europe?

We visited England, Greek Islands and Italy. Nature inspires me everyday, be it with tattooing or photography so I love to capture flowers and plants. I particularly like architecture in photography, and in Europe the architecture is so old and has so much character. For example, little towns from England to Greece to Italy have their own unique colour scheme. Would also feel inspired by the local people and their vehicles, nothing better than seeing a little fiat 500 in the perfect Italian backdrop.

Any upcoming project or travel?

I'll be travelling and working around Australia before heading to the US in November. Taking my Lomo'Instant Automat with me to document it. An instant exhibition might have to be in the works for the future!
