Antonio Borzillo: Portraits with the New Petzval 85 Art Lens

Antonio Borzillo entered into photography through his passion for drawing human faces. His artistic inclination results, also in photography, in a delicate, gentle and dreamy style.

After testing the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens, this time he took some portraits with the New Petzval 85 Art Lens, taking advantage of the romantic summery golden hours.

Hi Antonio and welcome back to Lomography. What are you working on at the moment?

Finally, I can work full time as a photographer. I recently moved from South of Italy to Rome and I am extremely happy: Rome is a beautiful city, which is for me a continuous source of inspiration, as I am always surrounded by art.

In this period, I have been traveling in different places, both in Italy and abroad, for realizing several personal projects, which I really look forward to sharing with everyone very soon.

Which were your first impressions of the New Petzval 85 Art Lens?

In general, I am really a big lover of vintage lenses, as I found them full of character. Maybe my opinion goes again the grain, but I do not really like the modern tendency of realizing "clinical" lenses, with the all possible optical corrections. I feel something is missing... it is like we are losing the magic which was typical of the old lenses, those kinds of "defects" which can actually become peculiar elements and for what a lens is unique.

Regarding the New Petzval 85 Art Lens, I loved its swirly bokeh, which is so powerful in creating a really dreamlike atmosphere, the rendering of the colors, which is really pictorial and retro, and, finally its 3d pop effect.

For which projects would you recommend it?

I would recommend this lens for those photographers who really love the bokeh effect and for anyone who is looking for a special lens and interested in fine art projects. In general, everyone should try it: experimenting one of the most important traits for a person interested in photography.
