Shooting Squares with Luciano Stofel

For our 100 hours exhibition last month, we invited some of our local photographers to take the Lomo'Instant Square for a test run. Luciano Stofel was one of them and created a beautiful spontaneous series in the streets of New York. It was his first time getting his hands on a Lomo'Instant Square and we couldn't wait to hear his instant thoughts.

Hi Luciano, please briefly introduce yourself to our Lomography Community

Hi, thanks for having me. I'm Luciano Stofel, from Brazil. I am a film photographer based in New York since 2014, and mainly focus on fashion and story telling.

When you first got the Lomo'Instant Square into your hands, what kind of work did you immediately gravitate towards making?

I was excited to see what the new Lomo'Instant Square camera could do, so I choose two models to work indoor and outdoor using flash indoors and only natural light on the streets playing with multiple exposures and colors.

Do you have any tips and advice for other first time users?

Always pay attention to the distance between your lens and your subject to get the sharpest results. This could be tricky in the beginning...

What did you enjoy most about using the Lomo'Instant Square?

I loved the shape of the camera, the folding lens gives you this really cool vintage look but my favorite part was definitely the finals results, seeing how sharp the images came out was really surprising.
