Newcomer of the Week: Beatriz Limeres (@beatrizlimeres)

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

I'm Beatriz, I'm 22 years old and I live in Brazil. Ever since I started photographing, when I was 15 years old, I always tried to record what I liked the most—fashion, authorial photo shoots with peculiar themes and unique, spontaneous moments like the first sincere smile of the day and the cherishing eyes of a dog.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

A few months ago I sent a photo to Lomography's Facebook Page. The photo was part of my project called True Colors, where I capture women and their most unique forms. A model portrayed in this photo was holding my Diana Mini. The answer I received was that they would love to see more of my work and they asked me to post my photos on the Lomography website.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

I think rule number 9 (You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film. Afterwards either) says a lot about my photos. Shooting with my analog cameras, mainly Diana Mini, I had great surprises in the development of the photos. I had no idea how some double exposures came out, but they are my favorite pictures made with these cameras. I really like this bizarre, fantastic or even unimaginable thing like a dog in the clouds.

In this digital age, why still film?

I came back to use analog cameras, not only as a hobby but also for my work. Since then, I was able to have the taste of childhood again. The excitement to see the result, the whole logic involving the capture of a scene that sometimes needs to be quick, the capacity of record that unique moment. All that reminds me of my childhood when I used to play with my father’s films without even imagine that this would be so significant in my life. And also, the natural "edition" of the revelation is fantastic. Who doesn’t love a good vintage photo?

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

Diana Mini is my favorite at the moment. I like it for being compact, light, and super cute. Her flash is also very strong, which makes it possible to make great photos at night with both ISO 200 and 400.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

I wish I had at least one of each [laughing], but at the moment I really want the LC-Wide 35mm. I love the effect of 35mm cameras but is the design and result of the LC-Wide images that truly captivates me.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

If I had to choose some music it would be Paramore's After Laughter album and Amy Winehouse's first career album, Frank, which even has a book by photographer Charles Moriarty. In the said book are a series of unpublished photos from the beginning of Amy’s career, which are a great inspiration for my current jobs. When it comes to reading, I really like biographies about serial killers or horror stuff and I'm also a huge fan of this movie genre.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

This was a complete accident. I really have no idea how this picture came out. The result was by far one of my favorite photos ever made with film. After this one, I ended up doing a lot of other double exposures with animals, which is also one of the things I love shooting.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Browsing through keywords of things that interest me, I ended up finding a girl with some very interesting photos and that has everything to do with what I like and work. Her name is Benedetta Falugi (@benedettafalugi).

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I think the most important thing is to show my art to people around the world in a simple and practical way and also to be able to look for inspirations, tips, and even new friends and partners to collaborate with my work.
