The SS Jeremiah O'Brien, docked in San Francisco is one of only 2 Liberty ships built during WWII of over 2,000madethat is still afloat. A really incredible self guided tour if you're ever down on the docks in SF. The steam engine is still operational and they take it out a couple of times a year on cruises. Well worth the visit. The really cool thing about it for me is that my grandfather was a radio man in the merchant marines on one of these ships. I still have his key code, the thing they used for tapping out morse code, and got to see what it was like for him to live aboard. Gramps had it pretty good compared to most of the sailors. As an officer he had his own room up top down the hall from the radio room. My shots didn't come out of the engine room so have to go back and try a faster film.
