Aligning the DigitaLIZA on the Epson v500

The DigitaLIZA makes it easy to scan uncommon frame sizes and to include the sprocket holes, but lining it up on the scanner bed can be tricky. This easy tipster shows you how to get good alignment every time.

The DigitaLIZA makes it easy to scan uncommon frame sizes and to include the sprocket holes, but lining it up on the scanner bed can be tricky. The Epson v500 has a small area at the top of the scanner bed that needs to be kept clear, otherwise the software will complain. It also doesn’t scan all the way down to the bottom of the bed, so sometimes it takes a few tries to get the DigitaLIZA right in the middle so that you can maximize the scanning area, but not cover the registration zone at the top of the bed. Also, if the DigitaLIZA is not perfectly straight, your scans will be crooked and probably need to be rotated in post processing. The following pictures tell the whole story. I used 3/8 inch foam core board.

The DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask holds your 35mm negatives in place so you can scan them, sprocket holes and all! Be your own boss when it comes to scanning 35mm negatives, giving you ultimate control over your images! Visit the Shop and get your very own DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask.

Thank you! But I still have a question.. My epson V500 crops my panoramas and I don't know how to do to have the full size of my pictures. Do you know how to do?

@leva12 I think you must switch the epson twain from Auto to Manual and manually draw the amount of film you want to scan

@superlighter Switch twain? Where do I do that? (I have the same problem)

@pinkpix set it in Professional mode and under the "preview" button uncheck the box "miniature" or "thumbnail" (my twain is in Italian), now you can manually draw the area you wanna scan.

Thanks! I've used tape to mark out the corners that my Digitaliza should align to, but that made my scanner unable to scan normal documents. Now I can use my Epson scanner as a normal scanner too and not have multiple scanners!

two business cards between the left side of the screen frame and the Digitaliza do the trick for me, but this solution looks a little more robust...
