Welcome Home, LC-Wide!

When the LC-Wide first came out, and for the first few months of me having my very own, I wasn’t too sure how I felt about it. Now that I have had it a while, I love it. After letting it travel all the way to Italy with a friend of mine, I was so glad to get it back!

When the LC-Wide first came out, I sort of didn’t want one but I couldn’t put my finger on why not. I guess it was partly due to the cost and partly because I just got an LC-A. Or maybe it was the way it distorted the photos slightly – I am not sure. Then, I actually felt guilty for not wanting one. It was this guilt that forced me to save hard with my piggies and eventually, in August, I had enough money to actually commit to buying myself one. My first few rolls were okay and I had a go with the masks a bit, but as I had suspected, I wasn’t blown away by this little device.

When I took the camera on my holiday to New York City, I did turn a bit of a corner with it, because you need a wide angle lens to capture a city of that size, don’t you? My opinion of it then improved significantly as some of my photos from that week are so crisp and manage to fit so much into them. I would have struggled to achieve such results with anything else, even with my trusty LC-A friend.

Some shots from NYC

After New York I lent the camera to a friend to take away with her on a couple of trips and a holiday to Rome. Strangely, I really started to miss my little wide-angled buddy. As soon as I got it back I started shooting with it immediately and have shot nearly 4 rolls on it in a week, which is loads for me, using just one camera! I have also really appreciated the photos I have taken with it, more than I did before. It has been with me on a protest rally, to the pub, on a lomo event and just on little wanders through town. These are some of my favourite shots from the last week.

Now, this is definitely going to be the camera I keep with me at all times because it just makes it so easy to capture absolutely everything. I also plan to be a bit braver and do more experiments with it, as I realised I haven’t even used it with a flash much, tried it on square format or done much long exposing. What I have learnt from this experience is that it is true what they say – absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

I felt exactly like you when the LC-W came out, already had 2 LCA's and so many other cameras... but after seeing a lot of great pictures of LC-W I finally bought one and tested it this week end... can't wait to have the pictures back from the lab! :)))

Can you fit your cable release into your LC-Wide? Mine couldn't but it fits on my Sardina.

@domo-guy I have the exact same problem with mine! It fits in my Diana Mini, but not my LC-Wide...
