Catch the Beautiful Sunset at Danshui, Taipei

The next time you’re in Taipei, remember to take some time and enjoy the beautiful sunset at Danshui. It is one of the places I’d definitely take friends who are visiting Taipei – on the Old Street, you can find awesome local street food and fun night market games; if you take a short ferry ride across to the town of Bali and the Fisherman’s Wharf, you’ll find yourself in the perfect place for a scenic walk by the coast.

As for myself, usually I’m too preoccupied with whether my tourist friends are enjoying themselves to really look at everything that’s around me. One Sunday, I decided to venture to Danshui by myself and loved every minute of it.

To go to Danshui, the easiest way is to travel by metro, which is about 45 minutes from Taipei Main Station. It’s a pretty long ride but sit yourself comfortably and you’ll get to see a good part of Taipei on your way.

My favorite way to get around Danshui is definitely by foot, nothing comes close to weaving around the crowds and taking in all the action around you: street artists, pet owners and their animals, as well as families big and small.

And best of all, make sure you are there to catch the magnificent sunset. Walk down the Old Street all the way to the end where you will find a two-storey Starbucks, get yourself a coffee and wait, camera in hand. You’ll want to keep snapping until the last bit of light disappeared into the Taiwan Strait.
