Secondhand Love Affair: My Fuji Instax Mini 10

A Fuji Instax Mini 10 camera, found amongst tools and other junk at a car boot sale has turn into one of my favourite cameras, it really is a secondhand love affair!

About 18 months ago, we were at a local car boot sale, and one of the reasons was to look for second hand cameras. This time, there didn’t seem to be any nice old cameras (unlike a couple of weeks before, cameras for £1 each). Then in a corner of the field, on the floor amongst tools and a lot of other junk the man seemed to have a spotted a box for a Fuji Instax Mini 10 and the camera inside looked like it hadn’t really been used, but did it work? At least with a point and shoot camera, you can normally at least check to see if the shutter opens and closes, but this camera requires a battery to even get it to switch on and this had no batteries, so it was taking a risk but for £5 it was a risk I was willing to take.

So back home I put some batteries in and was pleased to see that it seemed to switch on and look like it worked, so I went ahead and ordered some film to check it out! It arrived and it did it was all very exciting!

The first proper trip with it was to Barcelona.

I have since taken it to Paris, Florida and New York

As well as in the UK

Like any camera it can be temperamental, you can sometimes get shots that don’t come out very well, you can lighten or darken shots to some extent. I think it is just more noticeable with a shot that comes out of the camera one at a time. And for example I do not know where the pink came from…

It also got dropped on the floor, which caused a random piece of black plastic inside to drop down in front of the lens (which has now hopefully been fixed) and it also caused some interesting light leaks as you would expect with other cameras.

Despite all this I am totally in love with this camera, and to think it was found among other junk at a car boot sale!

Hi! This may sound like a silly question, but what batteries do you use for a mini 10? cheers
