Blitzkrieg Pop: A Quickie Tipster for Fritz the Blitz

13

Many people – including me – have complained about the Fritz the Blitz randomly deciding not to work. But I found out why this happens and how to solve it! Come read about it on this quickie tipster.

The batteries are ok, everything is set, but you shoot and… nothing happens! No explosion of light from your awesome flash. Why is this thing so moody?

To don’t lose the frame, I’d push the mx lever and try to shoot again. But then I – finally – found out what happened to my flash. You have to put it in your La Sardina and then pull and twist the lens until you see the “only shoot if you can read me”. But the thing is: if you turn down your flash (and you probably will do this to save battery) it “forgets” that the lens had been pulled so it won’t work. The solution? Simply pull and twist your lens again. I did that with my last two films and didn’t had a single problem with the Fritz the Blitz!

Ready to shoot!

That being solved, there is nothing left to complain about this awesome flash. It has three settings, for either closer or further subjects, and cool color filters that can add pink, blue or yellow shades to your photos. The white filter is to soften the light, but I never actually used it (I guess I don’t really know how that works! haha).

I should warn you: my examples bellow are filled with cats.

Distances: 1/8, 1/2 and 1/1
Color filters: Pink, yellow and blue

The Fritz is very powerful and works with a CR123A battery, which is not very cheap, but lasts a lot. With 9 rolls of film I only finished one battery – but of course it changes with how much shoot with or without the flash. A tip that I read on the Magazine helped me a lot: remember to always take the battery off when not using your flash. It can easily turn on by accident inside your bag and waste all the battery away.

Another thing I love about the Fritz is its design. It’s so cool and retro and it also makes that reloading sound that always remind me of the MIB thing to erase people’s memory.

How can anyone not fall in love with this perfect companion to your La Sardina?

nice! but what about the -so far- problematic FtB on a La Sardina without the need to pull and twist the lens, as is the Guvnor for instance. Any ideas??!

Tried this technique hoping for the best, but mine still doesn't work. :( Hopefully I can exchange it for one that does.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I just got my camera today and couldn't get the flash to work for the life of me! Yay! Now I know why and best of all, IT WORKS!

I should add, I also wasn't turning my lens all the way when I was opening it - I thought it was turned as far as it would go but it turns out I was being too gentle and not clicking it. This means I probably wasted all the shots I took at my friend's house concert but oh well, c'est la vie...

Hello, I'm sorry to be an idiot, but can you explain exactly you had to do? turn on the flash and then open the lens or open the lens and then do the flash? i am having a lot of trouble obviously. lol

Hi there, La Sardina users! I just bought my lomo cam last week and had the chance to try it yesterday. My only concern is the flash, Fritz the Blitz. It doesn't fire anymore right after i took like 20 shots (with gaps of course.) I don't think it's the battery, I just bought this Ansmann CR123A the same time I loaded the first film I used for the cam. The LED light of the flash is still bright, so my question is, is this a defect, flash drains battery really fast or I might be doing something wrong? Help guys. Thanks a lot!

Note: I cannot do this page's advice to my Fritz because my La Sardina is a Capri model, the lens is set locked to shooting mode.
