LomoGuru of the Week: Barakalofi
31 31 Share TweetAfter a long and very tiring day, there’s only one thing that can destress her – Lomography! And it is actually the only therapy that worked for her and it has never failed for the past five years, at least! We talked with Barakalofi and she gave us some insights and tips on how to effectively live the analogue life to the fullest!
Name: Margarita Carvajal Durán
LomoHome: http://www.lomography.com/homes/barakalofi
Location: Cádiz, Spain.
Number of years as a Lomographer: 5 years
Numer of years in the Community: About 2 years
Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic community
Last year I had the honor of being Lomo Consul in my city and I enjoyed and learned from Ambassador Pasquale Caprile in a great workshop. I was also able to travel Madrid several times and know the two Lomography stores, Echegaray and Argensola and make good friends as part of the first Lomo Matrix in Madrid. And this year, with my partner isabel_mebarak I will be responsible for the first Lomographic Flashmob!
And I have an anecdote about Lomography: Recently I was in Lisbon to dance with my group Raqs Al-Hilal and in the dressing room a boy did us a lot of pictures and when we returned to Spain all the photos were on Facebook. In a few days I received a private message to my LomoHome: it was from ""pepper_b":http://www.lomography.com/homes/pepper_b who was in the show and the photos were his! But he is very shy and did not speak to us :)
Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.
With Lomography I have met many friends and with them I can share ideas, projects, filmswaps … It is nice to have contact through the Internet with people from many countries, united by the same hobby.
I met many friends of Madrid: atria007, javihacefotos, larahacefotos, littlekoala, warning, lola_juanlu, wallywalter, antea … they are toomany and I can not just list them all! Others are from outside Madrid, as @ sye (Sara and Elena!) … Also I have many friends from outside of Spain(kisses to all)… Lomography is a big International Community!
Of course I have to mention to isabel_mebarak. She is my dance Lomo partner, we are of the same city and we make many sessions together!
Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?
Of course! Analogue photography for me has been a total discovery! I use it to detoxify everything digital, which is more cold and impersonal, it is a form of therapy to improve your patience: every time you shoot a roll, you have to wait to be able to see the results, like a child waiting for Christmas presents. It’s wonderful!
What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?
I have two favorite Lomo cameras:
One is for all: LC-Wide. You can always carry it in your bag and shoot anything in front of you. In summer, on the beach with the Krab, fun is guaranteed! I have many amazing photos with this camera. In addition we always have the possibility to change the format. 3 to 1.
The other is for portraits: Lubitel 166U. The picture quality is amazing and the 120 format is adorable, just perfect. I think my best pictures are made with this camera.
Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?
When you use your first films: “shoot shoot and shoot.”
When you see your first results: “think, shoot and shoot.”
And when you have new ideas, “think, experiment and shoot.”
:)
They are the ones whose passion transcends not only by what they do and say, but also with what they see and capture with their film cameras. And with such attributes aforementioned, they are what we call LomoGurus! Every week, we get to ask questions and reveal some insights with the most talented and productive of all Lomographers from the community!
