The Magic Emulsion: Agfa Ultra 100

5

The Agfa Ultra is an ISO 100 color negative film, a faithful companion on sunny days. I tested this film on my last trip to Croatia, but I have not previously worked with the film. I’ve seen this film on the market but it was too expensive. I once read that the film reproduces vivid colors like the Kodak Ektar 100. My film was not in its box, so I do not know when it expired.

The results are great and created a “wow!” effect. The film is characterized by intense colors and fine grain. In my opinion, the photos look a bit like if I had cross-processed a slide film. With a negative film, I’ve never seen such bright colors. I think the Agfa Ultra is just perfect for colorful subjects. The shining houses, the blue sky, and the blue bench on my photos look alive.

Agfa has discontinued the production of this film in 2005. Agfa Ultra 100 is, therefore, unfortunately not so easy to get. However, you may be lucky to find and buy this film in second-hand markets. But, maybe some of you have once gotten your hands on film bundles with different kinds of films. Who knows, there may be a roll or two of Agfa Ultra 100 hiding among your bundled films. Here are the rest of my shots;

Hope you liked my review and test out the Agfa Ultra 100 too!
