LomoAmigo HUDDLE Shoots with the Lomo LC-A+

Lomography and FILTER Magazine teamed up to present a special collaboration! We provided several artists from the Culture Collide festival in Los Angeles some Lomography cameras and here is our first LomoAmigo from our Culture Collide LomoAmigo series!

Toronto indie ensemble, HUDDLE. released their full-length debut, ALL THESE FIRES, in August 2011 to widespread critical acclaim and a solid spot on iTunes Canada’s chart (#11 alternative). Since then, they’ve been featured on MUCHMUSIC, MTV, in the popular series ‘TEEN MOM’ and their single ‘ISLANDS’ can soon be heard in Robert Redford’s new film, ‘THE COMPANY YOU KEEP’. HUDDLE just finished a studio session with producer/engineer Jeff McMurrich (Fucked Up/Constantines/Sando Perri) and will be releasing new songs and a new animated video very soon. You can see their first video on their website.

NAME: HUDDLE
COUNTRY: Toronto, Canada
CAMERA: Lomo LC-A

How long have you guys been Lomographers? How did you start?
Since 2001, with a SuplerSampler, gift from a girlfriend. Followed by an ActionSampler, Pop9, FishEye, FishEye2 and an LC-A. Long-time user, first time web-talker-about-er.

How do you incorporate Lomography in your daily life?
I commute by bike daily. I like to stop and take pictures of the scenes I pass by to get a fresh perspective on them. Take them to our shows to capture worthwhile moments in a unique way. I was stoked to see how small the LC-A is. Good for biking around.

What inspires you to make music and what inspires you to take photos?
Anything can inspire us to make music. A stressful day, the coming of the fall season, staying up til 4am. Anything that triggers a noticeable emotional shift in our day-to-day routines. The same applies to photography. Also, birds are nice.

Describe the LC-A+ in five words (one for each member).
Clay- simple
Dave- throwback
Mark- lush
Eric- classic
Teddy- fancy-pantsed

If you were to shoot your next album cover with the LC-A, can you describe what the imagery would be like? (Subject, colors, themes, etc.)
The imagery would have to heavily-saturated with colour, without being overly bright. We tend towards outdoor imagery, lakes, treescapes, rusted ships in the water… We started making music years ago at our singer’s cottage in the middle-of-nowhere, Ontario, on an island. 40 minutes from mainland. The scene there has always stuck with us in asthetic. You can see it in our video for ISLANDS.

Tell us about your dream gig/concert/tour as if it were a photograph or roll of film.
I’m seeing people in the air, freeze-framed in mid-dance as we play through a real toe-tapper like ISLANDS or CHANCES. I see specs of dust and sweat caught in a flash of light, with a lens flare for a nice accent. Everyone’s smiling and having a great time. That’s our perfect show/shot.

If you could photograph your musical influences, living or dead, who would those be?
Sea and Cake is one of our biggest influences and Sam Prekop and Eric Claridge are amazing artists/photgraphers. We would love to spend the day with them.

What’s the strangest, funniest, hands-down greatest, or most “unusual” photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had?
Watching my daughter grow up, through photographs, and having the chance to go back and see how she’s changed. Also, taking shots of circus-folk tight-roping in parks. Both worthy of a mention.

What’s coming up on the horizon? New projects? What’s in the works and what’s on your mind?
We’re playing at the CULTURE COLLIDE FESTIVAL for Filter Magazine in L.A. in early October. Really pumped for that. We also have 4 new songs recorded and we’re just deciding how to release those. We’re really happy with them though. Should be out very soon. And we’re planning a tour for February. Hopefully somewhere warm.

Any advice for Lomographers?
Shoot from the hip.
