LomoAmigo Gold Fields and the LC-A+

Lomography and FILTER Magazine teamed up to present a special collaboration! We provided several artists from the Culture Collide festival in Los Angeles some Lomography cameras and here is our fourth LomoAmigo from our Culture Collide LomoAmigo series!

The debut self-titled EP from Australian quintet Gold Fields bursts forth from the speakers with a freshness that cannot be denied. The band’s first single Treehouse opens the set with a glossy slice of pop etched with tribal drums. With a rush and a push of propulsive percussion and tribal textures, Moves provokes dance-inducing enthusiasm, even as its evolving lyrical hook lures the ear into a Trans-Pacific game of telephone. Percolating with pops and claps, the syncopated rhythms and shifting dynamics of “The Woods” evoke the otherworldly ambience of venturing deep into the wilderness, slivers of light contrasting with singer Mark Fuller’s shadowy incantations of “I wish we knew how to play safe.”

NAME: Gold Fields
COUNTRY: Australia
CAMERA: LC-A+

How long have you guys been Lomographers? How did you start?
Not long at all… I’ve always wanted a lomography camera but I’ve never owned one so we were rapt when you guys sent us the LC-A+, it’s really awesome.

How do you incorporate Lomography in your daily life?
I’ve just been taking it everywhere with me.. I keep it in the car. We’re home for a little bit now so I’m trying to get some memories to take back to America with me because we’re going to be there for a while.

What inspires you to make music and what inspires you to take photos?
It’s the same sort of things that make you want to take photos that also make you want to make music. It’s pretty much anything that makes you feel anything I guess.

Describe the LC-A+ in five words (one for each member).
nice, old, new, great, fun

If you were to shoot your next album cover with the LC-A, can you describe what the imagery would be like? (Subject, colors, themes, etc.)
It would be very dark. I’d imagine there being a lot of water and some sky.. So a lake or a an angry beach at night maybe…

If you could attach the LC-A+ to any of your instruments, which one would you glue it to?
I would probably say it’d be some sort of synth… We’re experimenting and trying to learn a lot about these instruments at the moment and the same goes for the LC-A. There’s an endless amount of sounds and waves that you can make and you never fully know how things are going to work, but they always do.

If you could photograph your musical influences, living or dead, who would those be?
I’d love to photograph a Flaming Lips show. They probably haven’t had a massive influence on our music so far but that would probably be fun. The Chemical Brothers show is pretty amazing.. It’s more of a ‘had to be there’ sort of thing, but getting some of that on film would be good. I’m going to take the LC-A+ to any festivals we play this year and get some photos for sure.

What’s the strangest, funniest, hands-down greatest, or most “unusual” photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had?
Ummm, probably this interview, haha. People always steal the camera at parties and when you develop the film, there’s at least one pretty classic moment in there.

What’s coming up on the horizon? New projects? What’s in the works and what’s on your mind?
We’ve got our new single, Dark Again coming out in early October and then we’re touring the sates for the rest of the year before heading back home to Australia for some summer festivals. Hopefully American people like our new music and come see our shows.

Any advice for Lomographers?
No! I’m just starting out myself so if anyone has some tips, let me know.
