Holiday LomoAmigo: Suizidekid

25

This Holiday LomoAmigo is someone who resides in a very cold but beautiful city in this universe. Too beautiful that the Christmas spirit can be instantly felt.

A Lomographer who takes analogue photography as something he does to get away from all the digitalism this world can give — a breather he is passionate and crazy about! And as he is our Holiday LomoAmigo just a few days before Christmas, let us say hello and welcome ourselves to Lomographer, suizidekid

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

I work at a photo agency in Vienna where I edit photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. I mostly edit football photos but there are lots of other stuff, too. Working there helps me get better with shooting because I get a lot of useful tips and tricks from my boss. My boss loves old cameras too and has a lot of them. He has no time to shoot with all his old cameras so he let me borrow his LC-A, Horizon 202, and a Rolleicord. One of the reasons why I really love to shoot analogue for myself is that I work and spend so much time with digital photos all day.

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

I got a Diana F+ with a 35mm back from my little brother for Christmas two years ago. For years before that, I was shooting just with my DSLR. I didn’t have much experience with a film camera before getting the Diana F+ so as expected, I had some problems with it at first. I wasn’t pleased with my first results. Then I realized that these Lomo cameras love the sun and with me living in Vienna, the sun rarely shows up during wintertime. But when the first sunny days of spring arrived, the fun begun! And to make the story short, I got addicted right away and bought more cameras and films and joined the Community.

What are your plans for the holidays?

I hope I can shoot some nice photos because now I hardly have time because of work. Plus with the season it gets dark so early. It gets really depressing at times. Aside from that I will spend some time with my family. At the moment I don’t have plans to go on a journey.

Any New Year’s resolutions for 2013?

No I don’t really have one. But I want to get better as a Lomographer and a photographer and of course I want to shoot some more awesome photos.

Sweet portraits!

If you could recommend one movie and one song to everyone, what would they be?

Puh! that’s a really hard one!

What’s your favourite analogue camera to shoot with? Why?

That’s a difficult question to answer! It depends. I really love my Mamiya 450 1000s but it is so heavy that I take it with me only when I have planned what to shoot. The LC-A+ is the camera I always have with me. It is really great and easy to carry. I also love the Sprocket Rocket but you have to know how and when to use it. It is not good for everything. And I love my Nikon FE2. I think these are my favourite cameras at the moment.

What’s the next camera you’d like to get your hands on?

I think it will be the new Lomography Belair X 6-12! I don’t plan to buy another camera ’til January but you never know.

What’s your favourite memory from this year?

I was checking Ebay for months because I wanted to buy a Mamiya 645. One day there was one available with a nice price plus the seller was a camera store who gave me one-year warranty. So I bought it and waited everyday for the postman to come and bring me my new camera. When it finally arrived I went out and shot a test-roll but I noticed something was not working so I got really angry but I didn’t want to send it back. After some time I realized that the lens is not releasing the aperture. I got to fix it myself and from then on, I have loved my Mamiya.

And now for the toughest question – What’s been your favorite photo from the past year? Why?

The Old Danube is just 15 minutes away from my house and for me it is an important place. That photo, for me, stands out among all the good photos I made at the Old Danube this year. It is clearly the best. I met a lot of friends there, showed it to some new ones, and for some times I was there alone, sitting by the water and waiting for the sunset and the right moment to shoot something like that photo.

Any holiday shout-outs or tips for your fellow Lomographers?

Just go out and shoot, try out new things, make some awesome photos and have a nice holiday !
