Smack dab in the middle of the busiest city in the world is our lovely friend Nicole, who mans our New York base of operations. Now it’s time for you to get to know her better!

Our Monthly Gallery Store Insights sets its sights towards the City that never sleeps! Gather a few moments and listen to our awesome one-on-one interview with Nicole, who lives the Lomographic dream over at the East side!

What are the first 5 things you think about when opening the shop?

1. What time is it?
2. I hope it doesn’t rain today.
3. I hope my choice of footwear will facilitate the type of activities I need to get done today…I really shouldn’t have worn heels.
4. Yes, I think we should listen to The Kinks station again.
5. Lights, cameras, customers!

How did you land this gig? Tell us!

I’ve been with Lomography since 2004, wearing many different hats, and then when the opportunity to manage the shop opened up, I decided I’d like to try on that one!

What’s the most out of this world experience you’ve had so far in-store?

We were setting up the Diana World Tour, and a strange visitor came into the shop. He was wearing a long coat and a fuzzy Kangol hat, and claimed to be Samuel L. Jackson’s brother. We tried and tried to get him to bring Samuel by the shop, but alas he never came through and he was never to be seen again.

Have any celebrities or noteworthy guests graced your hallowed walls?

Who among the Lomographic community are regulars?

We have migueld, who is at many a workshop and was chosen to participate in Diana World Tour, and xbalboax visited for a party or two. Of course we have ouroborosx, who is here everyday!

Being the lone embassy in the US, what can you say about the analogue scene in the States?

People are definitely very passionate about analogue. We have our crowd who already is in the know and is trying to scrape up every camera, accessory, and film they can find; then we have the newbies who don’t fully understand what we’re doing when they first walk in, and then leave with an armful of cameras and an eager smile.

If your life manning the shop was made into a movie, who would play you and why?

Probably Amy Poehler with a brunette wig…she has just the right amount of crazy to pull it off.

Do you have any future or planned collaborations with other artists and outfits in mind?

We have some pretty exciting Lomo Amigos in the pipeline, who may stop by the shop from time to time. We’re also planning some more awesome gallery shows with some very very talented Lomography community members.

Do you have any after work secret hideaways in New York that you’d like to share?

I love the Belgian Beer Bar, Vol de Nuit on 4th street, hidden behind a dark entryway with a fabulous courtyard and wonderful beer selection…also Freeman’s, a restaurant with delicious food that’s at the end of an alleyway on the lower east side.

What are the upcoming events you have in store for New Yorkers?

We have our first “workshop week” coming up at the end of December…we’re doing a workshop everyday for a week so everyone can try out their brand new holiday presents!
