Faro's Beach Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic

Faro’s beach is the southern place in Portugal, it is the place where the Mediterranean ends and the great Atlantic ocean begins.

Located next to Faro, the region capital city, the beach is part of a chain of islands and marshes called Ria Formosa. This is a place filled with vibrant wildlife and it’s well known as a bird watching spot. In the warm season you can watch a lot of different duck species and even some pink flamingos that come here to escape the high temperatures in Africa.

Since this is a beach it’s golden period is during the summer months, when it’s flooded with tourists from all around the country and even from Europe. There’s a lot of activities you can do here, like water-skying, beach volley and kayaking, but the main sport here is the Kite Surf. If you ever decide to come here I advise you not to come by car because this is a natural reserve and also because it’s hard to get a parking spot! The alternatives are the boat, that you can board in Faro’s docks, the bus and, my favorite, the bicycle.
