LomoGuru of the Week: Pearlgirl77

25

From her passion to her job, she is able to incorporate film photography. Quite the lucky girl who can mix what she wants with what she makes a living!

She hails from the southern part of Germany where she is yet to meet more Lomography Community members. Despite the distance, she has made quite a number of good acquaintances online. Aside from this, she also has a distinct style when it comes to taking Lomographs which makes her easy to recognize and meet, even virtually. Let us read on pearlgirl77 interview as she is this week’s LomoGuru!

Name: Tamara Skudies
Lomography Username: pearlgirl77
Location: Germany / Landshut
Number of years as a Lomographer: Film photography, over 20 years. Lomography fan, over two years.
Number of years in the Community: Two years

Tell us something about yourself… What do you do for a living? What are your main interests?

What is there to say about me… So, I am a professional photographer in a small photo shop. I started taking pictures with my first real camera, a Revue AC4 SLR which was a gift from my father. This unfortunately got broken this year after more than 20 years. Luckily, my hobby which is collecting all sorts of sweet old cameras has been for a long time already thus I already have plenty of other babies that I can use. But of course I had to buy a replacement because the Revue was my only SLR that could make double exposures.

Photography is really my hobby that I have started developing my own films this year. it is always a pleasure when the negatives are taken out of the developing tank and you’ve immediately saw how the exposure has become. Besides photography, I also like spending time with my husband, meeting up with my close friends, or go dancing.

Nature shots top her most popular Lomographs!

Tell us something about your LomoHome’s name.

This name was formed at the beginning of my time in the internet. Since then I’ve been a big Pearl Jam fan that I eventually came to the name pearlgirl. Eventually, I hung to the end and added my birth year. I wouldn’t change [my LomoHome’s name}, I like it very much.

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

There is no specific moment but I am constantly impressed by the helpfulness and friendliness of the users whom I am always in contact with. I also often write about other things than photography so if I have a problem I can always find someone who can help me solve it. Moreover, I also like helping other Community members.

Some doubles she’ve had with mapix and gauthierdumonde.

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends?

I am in contact with some but unfortunately have not met Lomographers in real life because I live so far in the south and most of the Lomographers I am in contact with live in the northern part of Germany or even outside the country. But I do hope to get to know a couple in August. I can not say that I have close friends but I have found love and warmth with people who I like to write. Most of the time they are brommi and hafenperle.

First steps of film photography with a Revue SLR.

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

Yes of course! The analog photography is with me even now already for over 20 years, can not just let it lie. Would be a shame to the filmrolls and cameras. Of course, there are always times where you make less but without lomography is no longer comfortable. I hope it exist even for a long time!

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

This is a common question but at present my favourites are the Horizon Kompakt White because of its swing-lens feature which conjures a breathtaking panorama, the LC-Wide and the ability to cross process which makes the most fun especially with the correct exposure, and the La Sardina Belle Starr because of its unusual sharpness distribution. One time when I was in holiday in Lisbon our flight neighbours spoke to me on how beautiful the La Sardina is. I, of course, had to give a long lecture about the camera!

A triple tie between the La Sardina, LC-Wide, and Horizon Kompakt!

Please share your most favourite Lomographic photo that you took and explain why.

A difficult question for me since I have problems when it comes to deciding. But I choose this for now since it was shot with a Lomography camera and it also because it shows the experimental joy that Lomography stands for. When I took this picture I never expected such a great result!

Please share a Lomograph you wish you took and explain why.

Why? Because I love cats and this would pack-up immediately if I could. Cats are just wonderful creatures and the eyes of this one are simply enchanting plus it matches the beautiful blue bow!

What’s the best Lomographic or photography advice you think you have given?

I usually say that you have to train a lot to get better. So go out there and take pictures so you can get better in time. And learn from your own errors!

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Try, try, try and again try. You can also of course get inspiration from other Lomographers! And I think everyone should have their own view of the world and how to shoot it in photos.

Testing it out with the Konstruktor!
