Please tell us something about yourself.

I am a 47-year-old engineer. In the last 25 years, I’ve been working in the areas of IT infrastucture and software development. I started photographing because I could not draw or paint. Because I did not have the talent to draw like Horst Janssen, I decided to take photographs like Helmut Newton. One has to raise the bar.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

Finding this community is not hard. As long as one is involved in film photography, the Online Shop will pop up once in a while if you’re searching for film rolls or cameras. The first time I saw “Lomography” as an art form was at the Photokina 1996. These lomo guys had a wall filled with some kind of colorful, unsharp images made with some sort of weird Russian camera. It seemed like the people were having a lot of fun with this new idea.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

I try to bring a camera with me every time there is a chance that I take photographs. When I have a camera with we, I make sure that my eyes are open to see the world around. If you don’t have the mood to see what’s going on around, you should better leave the camera at home.

In this digital age, why still film?

This is a funny question. In this digital age, I take digital images because the equipment is now good enough and the computers are fast enough. I see film photography as something really different. Using film creates some unreproducible moments of time which can be seen and touched. It creates a consistent, specific look for the image, eventhough the negatives are being scanned to digital files nowadays. This is important for my pictures.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

Cameras does not matter that much. I am a Nikon boy for 35mm format and I have some medium format cameras. Most of the time I shoot with a 35mm camera because the small negatives scan faster. Processing it costs less, too. When I was just starting, I almost exclusively use 120 film rolls because handling large negatives was so much easier with enlarger and developing tanks. Times are really changing fast.

What is the Lomographycamera you’d want to have someday?

I recently bought the Lomo LC-A 120 because it is a fun thing. Let’s see and wait what other camera or gear will come into my way.

Any song or movie you live by?

I surely do not have any film that I live by. However, “The The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” shows my addiction to film photography and my love for doing things with joy and pleasure:

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

Eveyday, one can find a favorite image. This one looks like an painting. It’s wide and colorful and the scene seems to be quiet and relaxed. It has a strong composition which emphasizes the important things. I like this very much.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

In general, I look up, with respect and joy, to everybody who makes great, emotional photos and who shares a part of their soul with the viewers of the image.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I am looking forward to seeing many inspiring and beautiful pictures and to showing some of my images. I think this expectations will be met quite easily.
