Lorena Dumitrascu aka @lorrainedumitrascu

Name: Lorena Dumitrascu
LomoHome: @lorrainedumitrascu
Location: Timisoara, Romania

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

Me... cameras, dance, books, snowboard, laughing until I cry with my friends, singing when I drive... Well, enjoying life. I was a travel agent for seven years, but then my obsession for photography made me feel that this is not just a hobby or a period of my life, it is my life and I want to do this forever. It’s like finding the man of your dreams and you know what’s going to happen next. So, now I do this full time. Most of my photographs are shot on film because I'm deeply and irrevocably in love with the medium.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I saw a link on a friend's Facebook page with his account on Lomography and I was glad to find a community of people passionate about film photography. I think you have created a magical world here and I feel lucky I’ve found you.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule #6 Don’t think (too much). I trust my intuition in most of the things I do and it leads me good. "Shoot, feel, perceive and shoot, have fun, photograph whatever attracts you, astounds you, excites you, seduces you.”

In this digital age, why still film?

Because film is catchy, surprising, real. You create magic with your own hands, not with a program. It speaks of humanity and truth.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

I love all the analogue cameras. They all have those little buttons everywhere and you wonder what happens with each. My current hero is a Minolta XD7, it follows me everywhere.

What is the film camera you’d want to have someday?

Bronica in medium format. This camera is a jewel from my point of view and I never shot with medium format. Hasselblad when I’ll be old, deaf and "wannabe cool”. Just kidding, I want it anytime.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

Susan Sontag's On Photography. I read this book six years ago and now I’m reading it again. I have a strong connection with it because it talks about values and about the changes made in our way of looking at the world.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

One word: FREEDOM (that state of mind we all want). This is my current favorite.

Any photographers you look up to? If so, why him or her?

Roberta Tocco and Solène Ballesta. These wonderful ladies are storytellers. They see the hidden beauty and keep it classy and dreamy.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Share ideas, news about cameras, everything about this "planet of photography on film”.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Lorena! Welcome to the community and we're looking forward to seeing more of your photos.
