10 Share TweetOn Thursday, July 20, Lomography Gallery Store NYC will be hosting Seeing in Monochrome, An Achromat Exhibition, featuring work made with the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens by NYC editorial photographers. Each photographer used the unique optic within their own powerful visual style, showing us just how versatile the lens can be. In this article, we're learning more about the featured artists and getting a sneak preview of their work.
Nick Suarez is a New York City-based photographer specializing in fashion, beauty, and portrait photography. His work is characterized by the strong black and white aesthetic he uses to capture his subjects. Originally from Florida, Suarez picked up his first film camera in high school and has been photographing since. While most of his commercial work is shot digitally, he enjoys shooting his personal work on analog formats including instant film, 35 mm, and medium format.
Ruby June was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan with a dream to star in big Hollywood films. With 2,182 miles between her and the Hollywood sign, she decided to create her own characters and capture them herself with a camera. Ruby moved to New York City to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying Photography and now works between Los Angeles and NYC. Her strong cinematic inspiration is brought to life with the use of experimental in-camera tools and styling. Her work has appeared on billboards across the world and in magazine spreads. Each client has it’s own unique characters and story to tell and Ruby strives to make every image as dynamic as a still from a movie.
Steve Gripp is a fashion photographer based in New York City. With a focus on beauty and capturing emotion through portraiture, he uses a mix of analog and digital mediums to connect viewers to the subject. Inspired by paintings from the Romantic period he uses light and shadow to shape the context and mood of his photographs, setting out to construct an emotional connection to each photograph produced.
