Oana aka @melanispixie

Name: Oana
LomoHome: @melanispixe
Location: Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

I am 28-year-old doll maker living in Cluj-Napoca. It’s a pretty, quiet town near the mountains. Every day, I go in my little shop and work on my dolls, which are all characters in a dreamland I imagined.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I heard about Lomography from a friend, longtime lomographer @systemdevice. He was really excited about the community and saw some pictures I took and advised me to start a profile. I've been hooked ever since.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

I live by Rule #6 (Don’t think). I like to see where life takes me without overthinking things, planning, analyzing. I really do believe that life can be “a fairy-tale unraveling itself to you” if you look at it the right way. And what better way to capture that than on film?

In this digital age, why still film?

I believe film captures that spectacular feeling that a digital photo could never do. It has the element of surprise, it makes you eager, it takes you to places you didn’t even imagine. It’s taking a chance, in a way, placing a creative bet of some sort: that one shot – all or nothing.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

I have this really old Zenit, the first model from 1952, which used to be my grandpa’s. It was broken, so I had it fixed and updated with a Helios 44 lens. So it’s sort of a hybrid now, but I love that old feel to it, the heaviness, the fact that my grandpa used to take photos with this camera. It’s more of a sentimental favorite.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Lomo LC-Wide Camera

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

I can’t really pick just one, but I am a sucker for all things whimsical and fantastic. Fairies, magic, witches, you name it.

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

Takes you to a place of comfort, that sweet slumber. Reminds me of all those naps I refused to take as a kid, that I now long for.

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

@systemdevice

He approaches the most interesting themes, and his photos unfold the most amazing stories. I especially like the album, Seeking the Light

I just think he is that passionate photographer that inspires you to take more shots, and I admire his technique a whole lot.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Well, mostly I look forward to discovering more amazing fellow lomographers, I barely scratched the surface. I look forward to getting inspired by more awesome photos.
