Name: Reza Ahmadi

Location: Balikpapan, Indonesia

Please tell us something about yourself and what you do.

Hi! i'm Reza. I live in Balikpapan, Indonesia and I’m working in printing media. I was interested in painting and drawing since childhood, but i can’t draw, so i took photography as an alternate medium.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I find this community when i went to college in Malang. I read it from a magazine and searched it online. I was intrigued so i bought Holga 120 CFN. After that i joined community in the city and met other Lomographer camera users, whom I talked about photography and made an exhibition together. It was really fun! After college, I went back to my hometown to work and was surprised when I met another community of film enthusiasts. I guess when you love something, it'll always find a way to reach you again.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule #5: Approach the objects of your Lomographic desire as close as possible. Before i joined community, I was a shy person and not so good at talking to people. But after meeting friends in the Community, i realized that I must try approaching and talking to people before taking their photo. With this rule, I also learned to communicate and always try to make my communication better, because making a model comfortable is an important duty of a photographer.

In this digital age, why still film?

Aha! This is a common question among my friends. For me, I appreciate my photo more if i shot it on film. Because when shooting on film, you have limited chance (12, if you using 120 film! ) so every photo is precious. And there's still a long process after shooting an image, you must develop and scan it. In the end, you’ll enjoy your photo more because you know the process is not that simple.

Your favorite analog camera as of the moment? Why?

Holga 120 CFN because of the simplicity of it. It's a simple camera but you can create many experimental photos with it.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

LC-A + with Instant Back.

Any song, book, or movie you live by?

I love comic books and movies, and can’t live without them. But if i have to choose a favorite, any movie by Edgar Wright, Wes Anderson and Mamoru Hosoda is a must! For comic, a week without One Piece is a sad one. Oh, also! The current Batman run by Tom King is great!

Share your current favorite Lomograph, could be yours or a friend’s. Why?

When I bought my Holga, I wanted to try it as soon as possible. But fool me, i didn’t realize that there’s no one selling 120 in the city at that time. I tried to search it around but never found one.

After that, I read online that you can use 35mm with the Holga (This is is one of the reason I love the Holga!) So I bought Fuji Superia 400 film and used it to take a photo of a rice fields near my home. When the roll was done, I went to the nearest lab and realized again that there’s no one that can it with the sprocket hole. I researched around again and finally found who can scan it, and voila, this is one of my first shoots and contains many memories about the first time I tried taking photo with a film camera!

Any Community member you look up to? If so, why him or her?

@imajrinalsi is my idol! When I first started shooting, he taught me many things about analogue cameras. My friends and I kinda made him the teacher among the group because he's kind and reliable. He always tries experimenting with his camera and shares his result with us.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Never stop taking pictures and always share ideas, because one photo can be an inspiration to many.
