TEN AND ONE Residency Week Recap: Mario Ferrer (@guanatos)

I came in a bit late and it was great to see all those welcoming smiles.

“We’ve been waiting for you, Mario. Put your cameras on the floor so I can take a family picture.”

Seeing all those cameras made me smile and feel right at home amidst complete strangers.

Well, that’s not entirely true… I’ve been following some of these people for years. I knew their LomoHomes and their pictures, but I had no idea what they looked like or what their real names were. I guess that’s why I had this sense that I’ve known them for years. It’s a bit like those old friends whom you stop seeing and then when you bump into each other the conversation simply flows. Well that’s what it was amongst all the wonderful people at the Ten and One Residency Week in Vienna.

People from all over the world (literally) and with such different backgrounds but all under one same roof sharing one same passion: shooting film. If I’m completely honest, the moment before going into the now legendary flat, in that cold Vienna night, I was a bit intimidated by all that talent. However, I soon realized that all of them were kind and wanted to share what they knew, so it quickly turned into an enormous source of inspiration. All week long we shared tips and tricks for hours on end. Everywhere we went (bars, buses, parks, street) conversations sparked on multiple subjects. I’ve never been in a place where I wanted to take part of every single conversation and lean in to learn even more.

We all captured moments throughout the week, on several cameras and different formats, but I thought I’d be a nice touch to keep some of those memories in motion. The LomoKino has been one of my favorite cameras since it came out. It’s given me happy memories and “facepalm moments” (like that time I forgot to pop in film and realized way too late…) So I took it upon myself to try and capture some of those moments, from our day trip to Bratislava to the hectic pace of building both our LomoWalls. I tried to capture a bit of everything so we could all look back and remember and give other lomographers a tiny window into what our week was like!

It’s been a week since we all returned home, but my mind is still racing with ideas and new things I want to try from everything I learned. Thank you Lomography for setting up such an amazing opportunity and thank each and everyone of the residents for their good vibes!
