Meet the TEN AND ONE Awards Judges: Mark Ostrowski

Mark runs our Lomography Embassy Store in Gijón, Spain, and has been enjoying photography since childhood. Find out more about him in this short interview!

Hello! Welcome to the Lomography Magazine. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi all! I’m Mark Ostrowski, Chief Ambassador at Lomography Embassy Store Gijón. I’ve been active in analogue photography for the last 15 years. Thanks for the invite!

How did your interest with photography start?

Since childhood I have always enjoyed photography, but I became seriously involved in making my own photographs after dong a darkroom workshop. Seeing those prints slowly emerge in the developer tray had a powerful influence on me...

How would you define photography? What makes it worth pursuing?

Photography is a process of developing a unique way of seeing the world and projecting that vision. The medium of photography is infinite. The best photograph is always the one you are about to take.

What inspires you?

Life itself is a never-ending river of people, emotions and situations. Photography gives you a chance to capture unique moments and to engage with people.

What makes a good photograph?

A memorable photograph should be strong on form and content.

Any advice that you’d like to give aspiring photographers?

When in doubt, click the shutter. Every moment we are alive, no matter where we are, reality is unfolding before us, offering us countless possibilities for fresh images. What could be more inspirational than that?
