Shooting Softness and Sharpness with the Petzval 85 Art Lens
14 Share TweetWhen shooting portraits, it's essential to keep a sharp focus on your subject. Fashion portraits are more lenient, though — you have the liberty to experiment with different effects. Hong Kong-based photographer Tung Tung Tung enjoys this creative freedom with the Petzval 85 Art Lens, as shown in these fashion portraits.
Tung Tung Tung likes portraiture, regardless if she's working with film or digital. For these photos, she used a Canon 5D Mark III DSLR and a Nikon FM film SLR paired with the Petzval 85. The art lens allowed her to frame her models in a backdrop of swirly bokeh while maintaining a sharp central focus.
To take advantage of the beautifully soft bokeh, it's highly recommended to capture your subject against a patterned background and shoot with an open aperture. For classic sharp portraits, shoot with a closed aperture. Either way, you'll achieve impressive portraits, just like Tung Tung Tung's work!
