Cambodia Peace Project as Seen Through the Simple Use Film Camera

Peering through the past with eyes from the present, twenty students from Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong documented modern-day life on the streets of Cambodia. The students captured the experience with their Simple Use Film Camera. This is all part of the Cambodia Peace Project in partnership with the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, aimed at providing a wider cultural understanding of the country, its history, and its people.

The students participated in a walking tour around the city of Phnom Penh to see the modern-day life of its residents and interact with the locals. There, they were tasked to photograph the scenes that captured their attention. Cambodia is a country with a dark past but the Peace Project aims to learn from that grim chapter in order to move forward. The students were also given access to M13, a former "killing field" where they shadowed archaeologists as they excavated the site for remnants of its grisly past. With b&w Simple Use Film Cameras in hand, the students captured these insightful images of the country and its people.

This series of monochrome photos captured by the students from Li Po Chun UWC provides a thoughtful commentary about the culture and history of Cambodia. The students immersed themselves in the realities of daily life in Phnom Penh and learned different photography techniques along with the experience.
