On Turning Inspiration into Creative Photography – an Interview with Laura Perrucci

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Laura Perucci. She and her counterpart Matteo are the creative-duo who have been churning out beautiful visual treats on their respective Instagram feeds. Their creative partnership has given birth to images that excite the imagination – in terms of color and concept, simultaneously. We are happy to say that we've found another source of daily photographic inspiration. Come and join us in this interview as we learn more about Laura and their inspired musings and carefully composed photographs.

Hi, Laura and welcome to the Magazine! What do you do and what got you started in photography?

Hi, Lomography and thanks for the invitation! I am a graphic designer and content creator. I think photography has always been part of my life. I still remember the first photo that I took as a child, and above all, the emotion in seeing that through it I had managed to express something that I had inside and that otherwise, I could not have explained.

Why choose photography as your medium?

I have always chosen photography because I believe it is the best way to stop a memory – an emotion. But it also manages to communicate a concept/emotion to which I want to give "light".

What pushes you to take photos?

I let myself be inspired by all the beauty that life can give, from a book to an inscription on the wall that has perhaps struck me for calligraphy, in general, and especially in recent times through social networks. I try to draw inspiration from everything that these powerful means can give every day.

It's great (and rare) to find a couple that is so into creative photography. How did you and Matteo start building your photographic work?

I met Matteo ten years ago and photography was one of the common points we had, and we still have. During the years of the Academy of Fine Arts, we understood how important photography was to communicate in a simple way and that is why our photography is based on creativity and simplicity. Photography editing is the fundamental part of our art and together we always manage to arrive at something that excites us.

You seem so in sync with each other that your photos look so natural. How does your creative partnership work?

Combining graphics with photography has helped us to develop and grow our idea of photography. It has been a fundamental development for us that we try to improve and perfect every day. Usually, we think together about the ideas and concepts of our works and then Matteo takes the photos and I edit and create the idea.

We love how vibrant and creative your shots are. How do you come up with your concepts?

Our mind is constantly moving and we are inspired by everything that surrounds us: music, art, cinema, literature, and life.

Please describe your work in five (5) words.

If we were to describe our work in five words, we would say love, simplicity, passion, warmth, and art.

Who are your favorites artists/photographers?

My favorite photographer is Vivian Maier but there are many artists that I love very much like Martin Parr, Gregory Crewdson, and Elliott Erwitt.

What is your favorite film? Why?

I love vibrant colors and therefore I love Kodak Colorplus200 very much, I think it is something extraordinary!

Any upcoming projects? Please share them with our readers.

I have a project in progress @mirrorisagoodfriend where I want to try to get as many people as possible to accept their reflected body with all the imperfections that each of us has. I would like to turn this project into a magazine/book. I hope to make it happen sooner or later.

Lastly, what advice would you give to photographers who are just starting out?

I recommend to all photographers/creatives who have just started to continue doing what they love every day because with love and passion you get the best results. Thanks again, Lomography for this beautiful conversation!
