Hello Dear Franziska and welcome to LomoMagazine! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How did you get into photography? What do you particularly like about it?
I am Franziska, 27 years old and from Berlin. When I was 18, I took a photography course in my high school graduation program and learned everything from light setting to development. Strangely enough, I left my camera gathering dust when I went to Berlin to study. 3 years ago I ended up in the fashion industry, got my camera out again and developed a great passion for photography. Now not a day goes by where I'm not surrounded by it and I'm glad that I was able to turn my passion into a profession in the meantime.
I really like to challenge myself, test new things and develop ideas. Through photography I can express myself and live out my creativity. By working with models, clients and many others, I get to know new people and stories – that is very enriching.
What was your experience with the Petzval 80.5 MKII? How did you like it compared to other (experimental) portrait lenses?
Working with the Petzval 80.5 MKII was a completely new experience and very exciting. It took me a while to adjust to the lens. I was not as fast as with my other lenses, but it was a great change. It gets you to concentrate even more and deal more extensively with the composition of the image.
Especially the bokeh control ring attracted me to this lens. It creates a great bokeh, which you don't see too often. Before you shoot with another person, familiarize yourself with the lens. Don't let yourself be rattled on location and take the time to choose the right setting.
"I like the urban corners of Berlin with their architecture. A person adds dynamics to the picture. The Bokeh puts even more focus on that. So the lens creates a very special atmosphere."
Do you have a favorite picture from this series? If so, why do you like it so much?
I like the pictures with light and shadow. In some of them, the shadow of the street lamps created a cross on the model's upper body. That does have something special!
Do you have some inspiring words for our readers?
Whether it's a hobby or a profession, creative work can sometimes be exhausting. Often you put too much pressure on yourself and even worse, you create things that are in line with the trend and look too much at others. It's good to challenge yourself with new lighting conditions, locations or equipment. That's how you evolve. By all means experiment, but do it for yourself and not to please others.
