LomoWomen: "Lockdown Love" in LomoChrome Purple by Océane Feld

March is Women's History Month and we want to celebrate and take a closer look at women and non-binary photographers from all over the world. Today, we would like you to meet a young artist from France: Océane Feld. Feminist and queer photographer, she prefers shooting in analogue because she enjoys the medium's unpredictability. Introspection and activism meet in her photos as you will be able to discover through her "Amour confiné" series, which could be translated as "Lockdown Love". With this series shot with the LomoChrome Purple, for a bit of fantasy, Océane is sharing her thoughts on relationships in times of pandemic.

Hello Océane and welcome to the Lomography Magazine! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, thanks! I call myself Océane Feld, that's my artist name. I've been taking pictures for 9 years now, I started when I was 12 years old. I'm a feminist queer, and I express my activism through my art. My photos are the reflection of how I picture the life I'm living.

How did you start photography?

I started when I was young, my mother gave me a small compact camera and I mostly needed to express what I was feeling because I had some family issues which had a big impact on me. Photography was an epiphany, I think that without photography I would feel empty, I need to create, to capture the instant, it really gets my goat.

Why did you choose analogue photography?

Analogue photography helps me to be more creative. It can't be easily tamed because it's unpredictable and I like to play with that! I find it amazing that the outcome can be underdetermined and not "clear" like with digital photography.

What are your sources of inspiration?

It's mainly the encounters that I had until now that allowed me to artistically express myself.

Could you tell us a bit more about your "Amour confiné" project ("Lockdown Love")?

I document my life with my photos and my new series "Amour confiné" allows me to express what I feel in my relationship since the beginning of the pandemic. How I'm living my romantic relationship despite the lockdowns, the alarming context...

You used the LomoChrome Purple film, how did you play with its specificities and the fact that it transforms natural colors?

It was a real challenge because I don't usually work with these colors and to be honest, I shot one roll in one hour, it was totally improvised! It was the occasion to catch up with what I set aside for a while: taking pictures without thinking and for enjoyment! And in the end, I was surprised by the results that I really love!

How photography is a form of commitment to you?

Photography allows to express and document all the problems linked to our society. This medium enables us to struggle and to be activists. It's photography that talks for me, I share all my emotions with my pictures. And, through my testimony, I hope to leave a message behind me, I hope that will think and change their points of view simply by looking at my photos.

What are your next projects?

I would like to work more on the plurality of bodies and love relationships, to talk about diversity, out of the norm love, people who change things. I look forward to traveling soon!
