Marta Pilotto works mainly with digital equipment, but it was an analogue camera, handed down by her mother, that changed her routine. "I was thrilled to be able to shoot with a camera that was older than me and had not been used for so long!". Now, she's a professional photographer working in various creative industries. Hi Marta, welcome! Could you please make an introduction for the readers of our Online Magazine?

My name is Marta, I'm 31 years old and I've been living in Barcelona for almost 9 years, where I work as a professional photographer.

Tell us about your photographic background: when did you start your journey in the photography world?

I have been passionate about photography since I was a child, and when I was 10 years old, with a disposable camera in my hand, I never thought it would become my job. I always dreamt of it - yes, I did - but "who would have thought it". But here I am.

Why the choice of analogue photography?

I started to enter this world seriously 8 years ago in Barcelona, where I bought my first Reflex camera to practice and gain experience. I then enrolled in an academy, attending higher courses in Artistic Photography & Creative Documentary and then Photojournalism.

These photos were taken with our LomoChrome Purple, LomoChrome Metropolis, and Redscale films. Do you often use these experimental films for fashion editorials?

My professional work is entirely digital. Last year, however, during a few days' visit to Italy, my mother decided to leave me her analogue camera (a gift from my father in the 1980s, when I had not yet been born), entrusting me with the task of finding out if it still worked, since it had been sitting in a drawer for twenty years. I was thrilled at the mere idea of being able to shoot with a camera that was older than me, and had not been used for so long!

Since last year, I have also been carrying the analogue camera with me at all times and I've been shooting film rolls between digital clicks. Once the film is developed, I give the 35mm photos to the client as an 'extra photo' in addition to the commissioned work. It's always great and interesting to compare them with the same digital shots. We can all agree that film has its own magic, that grain has an enchantment that digital will never achieve. I've had a couple of clients that got so excited that they've asked me to do future work entirely in analogue... and it's going to be a great challenge for me!

What's your favorite camera?

My favorite camera, because of its strong sentimental value, is the Canon AE-1 that my mother "handed down" to me.

What photographic equipment do you always bring on your travels?

I always carry one of the two SLRs (Canon 6D) with my two favorite lenses: 85 mm and 70-200 mm and the analogue Canon AE-1 with the 35mm. My cabin luggage is always my camera backpack... if I lose my checked suitcase, I have no spare clothes.

Who are the artists you follow and who-what do you draw inspiration from for your photos?

I actually follow a lot of photojournalists and reporters, and I hope to establish myself in this branch of photography too! I always find my inspiration in the beauty of small things, in the harmony of the shadow cast by a leaf on a wall, in the dimple of a cheek, in a particular somatic feature...what really matters to me is that all my work, from the freest to the most commercial, always has my "artistic touch" as a signature.

Do you have any future projects you want to tell us about?

As a personal project, I would like to tell a story (other than a fashion editorial or a campaign) entirely on film, without going digital at all. ;)
