Have fun customizing your La Sardina DIY camera with Proei (Fluffy Omelet), a young designer from Thailand who has turned a basic white La Sardina into a cute item that everyone will love. In this interview we get to know her and learn how to customize the camera through the process of rug tufting.

Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, my name is Proei-Natchariya Laosrisin. I'm 26 years old. Now I'm also working on design and I have started a small online shop named Fluffy Omelet.

What was your starting point as an artist and what is the background of Fluffy Omelet ?

I started making Fluffy Omelet around 6 years ago. I remember that time is semester break and I have nothing to do. So, I drew something to kill time. Then I sat and thought, if my illustration characters become into various stuff, It should be good! After that, I gradually produced many products, from stickers to brooches. At that time, my friends supported me a lot, we produced goods by ourselves. If my friends had time, they always came to help me. It's both fun and tiring. Now my product line has grown into towels, blankets and other items. So, I'm not quite sure if I can call myself as an illustrator because I focus more on the physical products.

What is your first impression of La Sardina camera ?

When I was in high school, around 10th and 11th grade, everyone was holding Lomography cameras to take photos with friends at school. I remember that year, Lomography also provided a design contest for La Sardina camera's dress. When I saw the camera, I really liked it. At that time, it would take a long time to save money for buying a camera. So I joined the contest because the winner would receive a La Sardina camera as a prize. I drew a couple of dresses (I remember that I designed the dresses with purple glitter of eyes and mouths.) In the end, I didn't win. But I got my own La Sardina camera eventually because my boyfriend bought it for me as a gift two years ago.

Could you please share the idea of this customization?

When discussing this project with the Lomography team, they asked me to transform this camera into an art piece. I thought very hard about it because I wanted the camera to still be functional. I began to think that I would like to use the project to tell a story about something close to me. At that time, Covid19 was spreading rapidly and I didn't go anywhere apart from my home. So, I got an idea to tell a story about my home.

I've been getting into tufting lately, so I choose colors to match the drawings. I intended to make the camera back door like a rug in the house. It's also fluffy, just like my name "Fluffy Omelet."

Do you have any advice for people who would like to try this too?

If you would like to try it, just start! You don't have to think too much. If you've started doing it, you'll definitely want to do it again. You may start by looking for your material and see how it works. Then see what kind of style that you are interested in. Try to find steps that you can follow and enjoy it.

If you could choose one song to go with this camera, what would it be?

It's very difficult. Probably Every Summer Time by NIKI. While I was customizing this camera, I often listened to this song. So now when I listen this song it reminds me of the camera.
