French photographer Emma Cortijo has previously created amazing photos with our LomoChrome films and that's why we offered her the opportunity to test the new 2021 formula of the LomoChrome Purple film Pétillant. Take a look at her images and discover why our experimental film taught her to let go and to leave her comfort zone.

Hello Emma, we are pleased to welcome you back to our Magazine! You're of course already familiar with our LomoChrome Purple film that you used for your BLOOM series and this time you were able to test the new formula of this film. What did you think of it?

Hello! It's always a pleasure! I found it more contrasted at times. I tested it with different lights so it varies a lot but I found it maybe easier to shoot in outdoor conditions. For me the rendering is more accessible, less "special" than the first version. I was very surprised!

You have also previously tested the LomoChrome Metropolis film. What does the use of these films bring to you compared to classic color negatives?

It brings me another look and another dimension. It offers me colors that I couldn't think of in post-production for example. And it inspires me for some more "experimental" photo series. It motivates me to get out of my comfort zone.

Let's get technical. With which camera did you use the film? And did you experiment with its extended ISO range?

I used a Praktica LTL3, and I stayed at ISO 400.

Can you tell us more about the series you shot?

My series doesn't really have a lot of sense or direction. I shot this film as I can shoot film in a compact camera: that is, in my daily life. With the previous version I shot a very intimate series which I love very much, and here I decided to do something very opposite.

Do you have a favorite photo and why?

I think my favorite is the most ordinary one, it's a path in a park. The trees are all pink, the focus is imperfect but I find it very soft to look at. It was the beginning of autumn, the light at the end of the day, and that's what I prefer.

If you had to summarize your experience with the LomoChrome Purple 2021 Pétillant in three words, what would they be?

I think that, without exaggerating, it would be: renewal, experience, and discovery. They are very similar I grant you, but it really gave me the desire to test things, to not use regular films, or rather to push them or pull when I process them to obtain different effects. It's a type of film that taught me to anticipate my shooting but also to let go when discovering the scans.

Do you have any advice for people who would like to use LomoChrome Purple for the first time?

For my part, I took notes by observing the work of others. For example I noted which colors were likely to change, I noted all that I could analyse on other images and then I started! After that, I advise to shoot it like I did on this second time: a little bit outside, a little bit inside. This allowed me to realize all the possibilities and then use it in the conditions I prefer.
