The Process of Film Photography with Tiffany Roubert and the Diana F+9 Share Tweet
You can see from Tiffany Roubert's portfolio that she almost exclusively shoots on film, with a mix of playful snapshots from daily life to intimate portraits. Each photo embraces the soft aesthetic of film, from the subtle grain and muted tones, even down to the occasional light leaks and happy accidents. Tiffany manages to present these anomalies in such a way that makes them seem totally natural and intentional within each frame. We recently sent Tiffany a Diana F+ camera to try out and she talked to us about the results.
Hello Tiffany, please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from the south of France but decided to call London home a few years ago. I never thought I would become a photographer one day but a trip to Australia about 10 years ago changed everything, that's when I fell in love with the medium and decided to try it. Film photography came later.
What's the appeal of shooting with film?
I would say the process. Of course, the result is what attracts me in the first place, but nowadays it's easy to reproduce it with software. But the process, there's nothing like it.
How did you get on shooting with the Diana F+ and what did you choose to shoot?
Coming from a rangefinder camera, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have difficulties at first. It's so easy to use I thought I was doing something wrong! In fact, no, it's just that simple. I chose to photograph my muse and wife at the top of Hampstead Heath in London, and a model on a beach in Ibiza (I was shooting a campaign for a clothing brand and thought it would fit the mood).
How did you find the results?
I loved how dreamy they’ve turned out. I particularly like the "double exposure". I didn't quite nail it this time, but I'll take a rain check!
Would you shoot this camera again?
Absolutely, especially to achieve more double exposures.
