Light Meter

At the top of our list is a must have for all photographers – a light meter. Whether you use a professional light meter or a mobile app, a light meter is your best friend. Many cameras have internal light meters, which is great for street photography or for a dynamic situation where you are shooting on the go. Otherwise, to nail each shot and avoid wasting money, an external light meter is an essential tool to have.

Tripod

This is an essential piece of equipment that no photographer should miss out of their arsenal. Night shoots, long exposure, pinhole photography, self portraits, or studio sessions – the list of situations when a tripod is needed is long. This is one of the most versatile and important items any photographer should own. There are many on the market, and we recommend using a sturdy one. On windy days you need your tripod to be stable as you do not want your camera to fall and break. A high quality tripod will guarantee the support that you need.

External Flash

There are endless situations that will require you to use a flash. A flash is such a necessary piece of equipment to have. Not only can it illuminate the darkest of nights, it can also be an additional source of light when you find yourself in critical situations. When using flash, there are rules that govern the light that must be followed. It is an extra step forward in your photographic experience that will expand your possibilities while strengthening your photographic style.

Film Case

A film case is essential for a photographer on the go. Having a portable storage unit at hand to store your rolls will save your day. Our new Metal Film Case is the perfect box to securely store your rolls of film when you’re out and about. Compact and sleek, it’s perfect for both 35 mm films and 120. If you’re traveling, or simply on a short photo walk, having a case will help you properly organize and keep track of your film rolls.

Cable Release

A related accessory to the tripod is a cable release. This simple yet important accessory will open a world of photographic possibilities! Everything related to a situation that needs a Bulb mood on will require you to use a cable release. With long exposures, self portraits, pinholes, and so on, this tool will give you the freedom you need.

Filters

This piece of equipment is most valuable for black and white photographers. We have dedicated a couple of articles to the importance of filters when shooting black and white. Equally relevant is the use of ND filters for daylight shoots, and also for protecting your lens from UV light. Filters are a must have in any photographer's bag.

Exposure Notebook

A simple notebook can always come in handy. Keeping a record of how you’re shooting is a great learning tool. Experimenting with new techniques requires you to have information and data collection to draw your conclusions. It is crucial to have a reference note so you can go back and look in order to figure out what to do next. But it is not only a technical sheet, it is also a way to keep your memory alive. Where you shoot, what have you seen, what got your attention, what was special about a place. These become precious diary entries of your photographic adventures, a time capsule to look back on and treasure deeply.

Camera Strap

Another simple yet significant accessory is a strap to latch your camera onto. There is a vast selection of different kinds of straps on the market, from the basic strap that comes with your camera, to colorful ones and even straps with interchangeable clips and magnets. Choose the one you like the most! They are essential for you to have when walking, traveling, or working, especially with more than one camera body on yourself.

Scanning Kit

Once the party is over and your film is developed, it is time for you to scan and look at your negatives. We’ve got you covered with this process too! The DigitaLIZA family offers a variety of scanning tools for any taste. Flat scan with DigitaLIZA Scanning Mask or scan using your phone with the DigitaLIZA Max. The creative control is in your hands during the whole process. Simply use your phone, and our Lomo DigitaLIZA Lab, and in no time you have your photos ready for the world to see.

Cleaning Tools

Taking care of your gear will guarantee a long life for your camera. Cleaning wipes for lenses, microfiber cloths, and air puffers are the basic tools to have in your bag at all times. Maintenance and cleaning is the most important habit any photographer should develop. Like brushing your teeth at night, no need to think twice. Clean your camera!

I'm still looking 2 meter long cable release that I saw at Nadirah Zakariya, Malaysian photographer, at her published photo at jpgmag printed edition

Extra batteries for sure. For camera, light meter, and flash. Also, I keep a plastic shopping bag stuffed in the bottom of my bag. Adds a bit of extra cushion for my spare lenses and makes a great emergency rain cover for your rig.
