Feeding Pigeons in Chelsea

Making double exposures in Chelsea. I don’t like pigeons myself. Well, not unless they are Chelsea pigeons. In Chelsea, everything is different, kind of like having a Midas touch.

It has a lot of shops with carefully-arranged windows displays, poshly-dressed shoppers, the most important art galleries and coffee shops where you can take a break and think about all of it. So here is my guide on making double exposures in Chelsea.

Arrive to Sloan Square tube station and head over to King’s Road. Buy coffee at Patisserie Valerie and sit outside, enjoying the fresh air then here come the pigeons! They don’t understand that you have no food. Even if you give them bread crumbs, they can’t find it. They just move their stupid heads back and forth but worry about that as you are here to take pictures! Pigeons are quite dark, so the second layer will come through them nicely.

Next stop- Taschen Bookstore. The subject matter of their books is predominately art. Downstairs is a small gallery space with a massive book on display alongside some photos. It’s a great place to come when you have some time to kill or get some new ideas for art or even buy a book or two. Shop’s window display always provides something great for Lomographer’s eyes.

Then, head to Saatchi Gallery. Free entrance, full of contemporary art, and taking photos is allowed. I am not gonna say much more, check a specially dedicated article on this place in my past articles.

Now when the first layer of your film is done, time to double! Turn away from King’s Road, deep into the cozy residential streets and you will find yourself in flora paradise. Houses here are cute and colorful, and even if they are white, they are usually all covered in some greenery. Head to St Luke’s Church Crypt – it has a lovely, lovely garden. The large burial ground which surrounds the church was converted into a public garden in 1881, the gravestones being placed were to form a boundary wall.

Some botanical gardens wouldn’t even compare, that’s how cool it is. The architect was James Savage, one of the foremost authorities on medieval architecture of his time and the church has a grandeur of conception and a great attention to detail. It is built from Bath stone and is now known as Chelsea Old Church.
